Some say when the leaves overgrow the rim of the pot...up pot. I don't agree with that. Really depends on that individual plants growth rate.

After you've done this a few times ya can just look at a plant and know it needs a new address. Especially when your watering it often. Soon it'll show signs of discontent..lol.

I procrastinate daily. It's a habit I can't fix. So I work around it. 😂
Everyone in my entire area are a bunch of procrastinators. The mentality… Eh I will get to it eventually. That makes me nutz! I have a schedule I have to keep. I don't make a physical list but there is a list in my head.

Let the games begin!
Getting a jump on things..cool.

When that second set of nodes arrives move that tie down up and lean it so the new growth can come forward.

After bending it over I remove any leaf on that exposed side. Usual just one leaf. As it grows you guide branches in all directions to form a base for the floater. Early train will make it branch more. All good stuff.

Just keep spreading them out as you see fit. I'm a month ya should have something similar to this. Your going wide n low this run and this will get ya there.

Two steps in floater screens. First one is early training. After the screen is set it's a no brainer grow from them on.

I'll use this as a guide, I wanted to get a jump on it since it stretched a lil. I'm kinda thinking about wrapping a wire around the main stem and then molding it into a circle kinda, almost like a bonsai tree. Thoughts?

I believe @oldfogey8 has done that recently.

I did a grow a long time ago(I think my 2nd or 3rd grow as an adult) where I trained the plant in a circle around the pot. I’d seen a webpage where someone did that and was using a 4 ft tall tent so I figured it would be a good method to try. I will have to dig thru my pics but it worked very well. Greenmobster looks like he did a better job with it than I did. I quadlined my grow over the winter. That worked well too. I am a bit schizo in that I try things, they work and then I don’t do the same thing again…😂

So should I remove this leaf? Or the one that's touching the ground or both? Also I'm concerned with how the stem is, really leaning on wrapping it in wire

I think I might have to do it just based on how the stem is currently

This is only slightly better then what it was, I really need to stop procrastinating and go to ACE and get something else besides this crap wire I have

I personally would just move the soil away from and leaves touching the soil. The plant is small so it is best to leave as much surface area of leaves intact to help feed the plant.

It's good to get a jump early. I usually wait till I have 2-3 secondary poking out. Maybe 3+ weeks old.
First I'll remove these leaves and expose all growth. The first set of leave I leave alone. #2-3 I remove.

The idea is to guide those secondaries into all opposite directions away from the main. It'll form a nice base for the floater in flower.

It's important to get that main stem at a 90° angle. Easier to do with a young plant. Lots of crushing n bending for an older one.

It's cool your attempting the training. You'll learn a lot as ya go. Once ya get that picture in your head of what you want to accomplish it becomes super fast n easy.

Maybe I should have let it get a little taller first. I just gave her the first dose of nutrients though. I'll give it a day or two before taking any leaf off.

These are very helpful photos as always. Sometimes I get excited and get ahead of myself. Either way very helpful info an photos

I removed the 2 leafs below the top, 3 node. It's opened up some light but these leafs are so fat lol.

I also got this neat little measuring cup that measures in mLs so I can more accurately message one the nutrients, before I was kinda eye balling that one with just filling the cap 2 times to get to ~40mLs.

The clone is not looking good at all and still no sign of roots. I'll give her a few more days to complete die I suppose

Good start. Just keep peaking under them leaves as they get bigger. If it's blocking sites remove it. Your not going to stunt growth. Your bringing growth forward exposing it to light. It no longer has to compete for light...just grow.

That clone. My thoughts....remove it from that bottle and put it in a cup of tap water in a constant light. I use my stove lamp. If the stem starts to develop this...
IMG_20240515_153504647_HDR.jpg

It means your roots are on the way.

That clone isn't dead. If it's still green your good. But if it never develops these white nodes it prob isn't going to root.

Looks over watered to me. A plant that small in a pot that size can easily get overwatered. I find this site is pretty helpful as a quick reference for diagnosing issues with plants.

She's definitely not over watered, she has only been watered with 1/4 gal 3 days ago and I just gave her another 1/4 today. I'm not completely soaking the pot just a good bit around her.

I think she's just got really broad leafs and the way she is pinned down

Maybe it's time to let her grow upwards a little. I typically don't start training till they are 6-8" tall.

I'm experimenting a little bit. I seen a grow start off how this one has. I'm trying to get the two branches on the second node to start growing out. They are about an inch from the main stem currently.

The main stem is getting pretty thick for the age though, I think that's a good sign

This first few leaves can be funky sometimes. I often just remove them. As long as the new growth is coming in healthy your golden. Experiment all ya want. Your not going to hurt her at all guiding them branches. Your just setting the stage so she can give you all she has to offer.
