Yeah I knew this was gonna happen. Thise plants were started fir an indoor grow but they were such slow starters I tossed em outside because I was suppose to flip my indoor stuff 4 weeks ago and then got hit with heat stress and a P deficiency so I help off and now I wish I'd left em inside lol
Day 61
Independence Day! Bugs, humidity, heat-- July in Central Virginia.
I'll celebrate with the arrival of powdery mildew on one of the GSC. That's to be expected this time of year around here. I sprayed with half-strength Agrowlyte.
Also a little weirdness on new growth. I would guess calcium deficiency, but I have been feeding Cal-mag every other watering, so no idea. It has come on pretty quickly; hope it doesn't continue on this trajectory.

Looks like your getting the full Monty of bugs n junk. Pm and what looks like thrips damage too.

I love growing outside but I live in the desert not VA. I usually only get flys and aphids. Flys dont ruin the crop but are annoying. Aphids suck the will demolish an entire plant quick too. DE is my friend. Time for another round on some. I left the flower bed undusted and they are going to town in there. Looks like more rain in the forecast. It is good if we ger a good saturating rain a day or so ahead of the 4th. Then when the Idiots from TX come blow off fireworks on the NM side of State line rd, They wont set the desert on fire. On the 5th theres a big mess and a lot of burned spots in the desert. Last year wasn't bad at all. It rained just before the 4th like this year. Rain this time of year is a blessing.

I've heard of thrips but don't think I've seen them or their damage before. What do you see that suggests thrips?
Ive used spinosad on them. There are many on brands out there.
My favorite is Captain Jacks.
Looks like Leaf Hoppers See any other them on your plants?
They can be very colorful too
I hate bugs that mess with my weed.
I've seen them on my Eggplants.
Yeah I haven't seen much damage from them.
Just spots, if they get too crazy they can affect the health of the plants leaves

Day 74
All three plants are about 4' tall and thriving. Pre-flower for about a week now. They still have plenty of growing time / veg, but the twice-topped seems to have produced the shorter, bushier, more manageable plants I was hoping for.
I'd say 15 of the most recent 20 days have been 100 degrees, or dang close to it. Other than a couple of twice-a-day watering days, the plants have held up pretty well.
The GSC with all the damage (thrips?) has recovered nicely and the new growth has been bug-free. In my short time growing, I've learned not to sweat things so much. All that bug damage and weird leaves would have freaked me out in the past, but I've realized that a plant can endure all kinds of stress and still make it to the finish line just fine.
Watering roughly 2 gallons a day with 1T Grow Big / gallon, 1 T Buds and Blooms, and 1t cal-mag / gallon every other day.
Giving a good soaking spray of spinosad and bT once a week and other than an occasional leaf-hopper, no bugs. I always spray in the morning before sunup, and give a thorough soaking, trying to spray up and down to get the under-side of leaves.

Even in Ohio, I'm having to water a second time probably half the time. Using 7 and 10 gallon cloth pots, I feed close to your schedule, but with Jack's. Yesterday, we had 1/2 inch of rain overnight. I fed the plants around 11am. By evening, they were drying so they each got a gallon of water. It's been plenty windy causing more drying. It's been hot humid and rainy so far this summer, hope it dries up a bit going forward.

Maybe it's been so hot for so long it's just keeping the bugs and WPM at bay - who knows. Other than the thrips or whatever infestation early on, no caterpillars, not many leaf hoppers.
Maybe routine Spinosad and bT sprayings every Monday morning pretty much all season is the way to go.
