shipping to a friends address?

What purpose does shipping seeds to a friends address serve? Doesn't it just put them at risk? Ive been reading through the forums and it seems like alot of people have done this... and I have yet to read a reasonable explantion.

If for some reason LEO does come a knocking, he will not be knocking where the growing operation is located. Thus getting your new seeds plus your grow.
