hey all,
i recently germinated some seeds. One on thursday night and 4 on friday night. I used the papertowel method and now they all have all germinated and have tails. My question is: I dont want to plant them just yet because i cant get the right soil until 1-2 days, are they going to be fine until then? Anyone have any feedback?

Well the longer the tail is out of the soil the more prone it is to contract something, Keep the paper towels wet and clean, change them if you can to fresh ones to make sure the water does not go stale.

Germinating seeds should be the last thing to do on your list next time. Good luck.

You may have some problems. Seeds only have so much "stored power" to crack through the shell and start growing. IMO, the longer they are in the paper towel after they have popped and not planted, the less chance they have for survival.

I hate to sound harsh, but why in the world would you germinate seeds when you did not have anywhere to plant them? Do you have a grow space set up and dialed in?

ok im not trying to jack this thread but this has raised a question for me.

ok if plants can survive for 4 weeks in hydro or soilless with nothing but water why would leaving them in a paper towel be any different as long as they get water and the root stays in the dark?

Because plants in hydro have leaves on them that then get energy from the light.

The seed has enough energy in it to grow a root to hold the soil and then flip its head out of soil, then leaves take over for energy.

you know what, i wasn't even thinking about that.. lol makes sense don't it.

yea well i found out i bought the wrong soil after i germed. i have ffof and my other seedlings got burned. my hydro store is not opened till tuesday HENCE the reason why i germed them early. THANKS

:yeahthat: In addition, the longer the root, the easier it is to damage it when trying to put the seedling into your medium.
