I'm thinking about getting some seeds hopefully to find some good mother plants. I was reading that feminised seeds are supposed to produce a more uniform group of plants, maybe I got the wrong idea from the website but does that mean I would have a better chance of finding a single outstanding phenotype from a package of standard seeds rather then going with the feminised ones? Any help would be greatly appreciated:fid:

Hi Kush,
I'm not a fan of fem seeds as I think you have a better chance of getting hermies. I would plant regular seeds, take a few clippings (clones) from the strongest and biggest plants, root the clones and put them into flower while your other plants are vegging. Don't forget to mark what plants what. Wait and see which ones are females and use the best donor plants for your mothers.
:p

:yeahthat:

When I start with a new commercial strain, I alway just get a regular pack of 10 seeds, sprout em all, select the best females and go from there, as I too have heard of alot of hermies in feminized seeds ;)

I dont usually use the males at all, unless a particular 1 shows special desirable characteristics [ie the very special nevilles haze male I just used to cross with my SnowWhite] I just use gibberilic acid to get my own seeds, an acceptable version of hermies

in almost every instance, I have been able to find at least 1 good mother plant in every 10 pack, usually 2-3 :aok:

IMO.. you're 'spot on'.. ;)

I think NewGirl is correct.

If you are after a mother plant, then STEER clear of using Fem seeds.
I made the mistake years ago of making a Mom from Feminized seeds. The first run was GREAT, all ems, with a few small seeds here and there.
Now, the cuts I took from them and flowered the next round, all morphed BAD and seeded EVERYTHING. I'll never use Fem seeds again.
Now, I can see usuing Fem seeds for a single run, but not to choose a mother.

So, if you get regular seeds, here is what I would do.
Veg out the seeds until you are ready to flower. Right before you flower the plants, take a couple of cuts from each one and LABLE them as to what specific plant they came from.

Toss the males.
ID the exact pheno you want and keep the coorisponding clone. Grow that clone up and use THAT for your mother. IMO, a clone from a seeded plant is better as a mom then the plant started from seed. They clone easier and for the most part, finish faster.

you should be good Feminized seeds have a tendency to turn Hermie if there stressed. that is how they make fem seeds they stress a female to turn Hermie and put out male pollen sacks to pollinate another fem making Feminized seeds.
just make sure you try your best not stress them out and you should be cool. its possible you mite have a few bananas pop out near the end of flowering. just keep a close eye on them when you start to flower:cool:
