I wanted to post this article on variants in potency or THC% per plant from the same lot. This article is geared moreso for commercial growers and determining THC levels but it's useful information for the home gardener as well.

To me each and every seed produces a unique plant. Yeah, the label may say Blueberry OG but each seed in that pouch is its own plant and there will be differences between each plant... especially potency and terps.

We've all seen it. We crack a lot of seeds and grow out the girls. 9 outta ten times you'll see variants on these select plant. Most of the time we can only see visual markers that show differences in the plants. But what we can't see is potency. We can only determine that after harvest obviously.

So I've been on this kick lately. I number each plant I grow. With variants on potency via each plant I can track the winners and sort out the not so desired plant. I take clones of everything I grow just in case I find a winner. Once I do it's easy to identify and rerun the strain.

Because I am limited, in my state, I can’t do this but I did examine the process. I had to go another direction.

I determined the best method I could devise for bringing out the best in a seed’s genetics. Then I try to grow seeds that have a great genetic background as much as I can. My experiments are to try and coax out all the genetics that seed has to offer because I know the genetics locked in each seed is a little different.

And yes I have ruined weed doing these experiments but each time I learn something I needed.

I don't look at this as an experiment. This isn't something that can fail. It's simply identifying exceptional plants by tracking each individual plant by number.

We all try to grow the best genetics. I'm just pointing out that there is differences in potency in each plant. By identifying and tagging that plant I've zeroed in on what I want and often run it again via a clone.

I agree completely. I just wish I could have the ability to do this process

Nothing much scientific about identifying and numbering a plant..lol.
Watched a YouTube once I believe it was buid-a-soil. They grew 50 and out of the 50 a few were outstanding but one was a freak as in the trichome level was so high the stalks had trichomes or that’s what he said in the video. I always thought if it had been so awesome why didn’t they show a shot of that but still.

I call that looking for mama

I have been doing this for a while.
Ice Princess is the 28th strain I have grown, therefore, her number is 28.
But wait, there’s more, I popped 3 seeds, so the plants are numbered 281, 282, and 283.
Pretty simple, yet efficient system.
