Yeah. So, I posted a thread a while back in regards to the "nature" of the re-awakening seed. Had some photos and liturature by Bill Drake to back me up..... blahblahblah. What my argument was: the research I did led me to discover that under normal conditions, a SEED that is UNGERMINATED placed in soil will send out a tap root that turns 90 degrees upon emarging from the husk. I argued because all the therads I read about germinating said to place a germinated seed tap root DOWN in soil (or whatever). Well, after an experiment, I found that a GERMINATED SEED placed in soil ROOT UP will turn back and forth and grow in spirals underground sometimes, oft time killing out the seedling because it never breaks soil. SOOOOO. My argument was understudied and wastful of time and seeds. SEEDS THAT ARE PRE-GERMINATED SHOULD ALWAYS BE PLANTED ROOT DOWN. MY APOLOGIES, MP..............

Here's the thread:

I have noticed nearly ALL the post I read suggest placing the seed in the soil tap root down. This contradicts the research I have done. I am not trying to tell anyone thay are wrong, I just want to share this info:
The following were taken from "MARIJUANA the cultivators handbook" by Bill Drake.....

Even I, the new grower knew that... but you're still cool.

BTW did I tell you my plant broke ground? I can't find the USB cable for my camera... so I have to buy a new one for A WHOLE $25!

If I'm not mistaken, Whoa, you sent me an IM not four days ago asking me how to germ your seeds, and I sent you that same thread, which you thanked me for and said you would save. Please don't lift yourself up at my expense. I was humbling myself in the lessons of growing. You should attempt the same.
No response needed, please.

I told you I was just kidding around, and I DID save that picture.

OK, man. Maybe I took you the wrong way. I'll drop it.

I thought you meant planting the seed tap root up after germination, the pic tells you how to plant when you're just planting the seed (no germ).

The pic says to plant the seed pointy end up and the root will curl downward and continue to grow. The way it's all explained makes it easy to believe.

The best way I know how to germinate is to punch a 1" hole into your grow medium/soil and place the seed in it and cover. Keep the soil moist, not soaking wet though. On the same note keep light on it for 24 hours a day and a constant temp of around 75 degrees F.

Let the seed work the natural way.....this is the only way in my opinion.

This will save you from handling the fragile baby and contaminating the new found root.

Sorry about that Capt and thanks for all the help :D

I prefer to put mine root up. Gives the plant time to get a good root system to hold the plant up for when it sprouts. Isn't that usually the idea? Short and stout. :p

Before I really knew what I was doing(not that i KNow now) but I thought that the taproot would have been the stem so I always planted with it up and I noticed they sprouted out of the gound faster and were good, firm, strong seedlings. It just seemed different to me, I dunno Im so so blazed, dazed and hazed rite now. But I did see a difference in planting it up and down, now I plant all mine root up.

I think if your seeds are geneticly sound, it really won't matter. The root will adapt, I believe, to gravitational influence regardless of position. It is the tap root's nature to search "downward" for foundation and nutrients. For that matter, my next batch, I believe I will place the seeds in the soil sideways JUST to observe stem delevopment. Not finished with subject just yet, girls and boys....

Maybe if I pant one deep enough it'll break ground with a full set of fan leaves. :D
