Lots of rain today, starting at 52F and predicted to reach 61F during the scorcher part of the day.

Housekeepers due today, so Miss Layla, Jake and I will head for Fernhill dog park to frolic in the rain.

Picking up the SIL from the hospital today and delivering her to her home, along with Jake, her pup that we've been babysitting. I can only imagine how glad he will be to see her.

Sounds more like Absinthe

poured over ice into water Edgar Poe's favorite drink

Absinthe does have that technique, too. Very similar.

The major difference betwixt the two is the strength of the anise (licorice) flavor.

It is just a hint in Absinthe which is sorta nutmeg and anise, while in Pernod it is straight-heavy licorice in spades.

Had 'em both while in Paris. Absinthe is for he-men, no error. Like drinking gasoline (did that once, accidentally) <-- haven't we all?

And Pernod is only for those who truly love licorice.

this was a favorite beverage of some popes

In fact, there was about 6 mg of cocaine per oz. And while not quite as addictive or potent as snorting the drug, it was enough to give the drinker a nice buzz. That might go a long way towards explaining why the drink was so popular. But a lot of the credit for the drink’s success also has to go to Mariani himself.
