Bought a bag of Fox Farm Ocean Forest from Amazon recently for my winter indoor grow. Plants look healthy enough but i started noticing fungus gnats so I bought stickies from Amazon. I don't really want to just trap them. What do you guys do?
The bag i bought is loaded with them so I threw it out! I can't believe i didn't notice it right from the start.

Yes I do. With great success and no bugs. But to each his own.
My motto is,,if it ain't broke it don't need fixed. I keep it simple.
Yehaaaaaaaaaa 🤠

Same here. Ive NEVER gotten a bag with bugs in all the years ive grown. Ive been using the stuff for... jeez its gotta be 20 years ? Roughly. As i said in my earlier post, I only buy it from one place. Im not sure i trust getting dirt from Amazon thats been sitting in a warehouse with god only knows what else. Buy from your local plant place you trust and leave it at that. But to me this soil for 20 years or more has been a god send for me and my growing. Im sorry to hear of folks not having the luck i have.

I'm heading up to Home Depot to get me some soil. I'm getting some seed starter and Vigoro Potting mix. I already have four started so this is a soil experiment more than anything else. I've had good success with Fox Farm in the past but you may be right not buying from Amazon and buying from a local place. I've also tried our compost soil but the little guy ( girl ) doesnt seem to be doing well.

Buddy ran his 1st grow in 64 yrs using MG Organic soil and did really really well. I was shocked
I gave him advice along the way and for his 1st grow no rot, bugs, or mold up until harvest.
His yield was fantastic for 1st time.
I will try MG again myself.

I tried that soil once and it sucked. Hopefully it will work out for you.👍

Along with my four plants I placed two Bubba Kush seeds one in like i said my compost soil and one again in Ocean forest ( small pot ). Both popped but the compost one is struggling so I plan on removing that one and putting it in another small pot using that Vigoro soil mostly as an experiment. I may put it in MG seed starter first as the Vigoro has all kinds of nutrients packed in. We'll see how well it does.

As far as I've seen every bag of soil is loaded with Gnat eggs. A lot of this stuff is stored out side , which exposes it to bugs. I grow in Coco and have had a few "Loaded" bags of that too. I had an experience similar once, when Fox Farms Strawberry Fields came out , I had never seen an infestation of Gnats like that before, and similarly I threw the rest of the bag out.

I used FF several times before but I generally buy my soil way before I need it. I think every time I cut a bag open it had dried out basically all the way. I have had decent luck. I guess being outdoors, I wouldn't notice the bugs. One of them, and I can't remember which one is way richer than the other. Happy Frog or Ocean forest. I generally only DIRT FARM outdoors with buckets and autoflowers starting in the springtime. My main indoor has been hydro for years. @brozz Good luck. Are you going to use this thread as a journal? If so, I'm pulling up a chair.

^^^ Same here. Water inside; Dirt outside.
When it comes to outside, nothing beats in the ground. Found that out quite by accident. Had three really nice skunk plants inside in hydro that put me three over on my allowed plant count. I put 'em in composted soil in 5 gallon buckets and put 'em out behind the barn, hoping they wouldn't be noticed. One was an easy two feet taller than the other two come harvest time. I grabbed the two shorter ones to drag inside to harvest. Went to grab the third tall one and ripped the bail off the bucket and vegged my back. Kicked, pushed; it still ain't moving. Got a shovel and dug underneath. Finally got it up. Upon inspection, the one bucket developed a crack in the bottom and the rootball found it and sent some really large roots down into the ground.
Same plants, but the one that found its way into the ground got bigger and had a much bigger bud harvest.

Pull up a chair son if that's what you want. I started this thread to find out what you all use for an indoor grow as there are many potting soils out there. I got a little hot when i saw all the freaking gnats flying around my grow room especially after the summer i had growing in 5 gal buckets on the deck. That Ocean Forest was sitting in my house since May so it had to be dry. I don't get it but it is what it is. BTI is my next move.
