Hey everybody! I have 1 small 2 plant hydro grow under my belt and it produced some fine weed, if I do say so myself. Between that success and the way an Aerogarden just grows herbs so fast, I thought I'd try and grow some fruits and vegetables in a 4 x 8 tent with a "flood and drain" hydro system. I used vinyl downspouts for the water channels and to hold the net cups. The end caps I bought from Store - World Grace Project and bought the 3"x4" end caps and drilled the proper size holes for the bulkhead fittings, 1/2" for the inlets, and all drains are 3/4". In each water channel I have 1/8" drain lines that drain 90% of the water in between water cycles. I have 2 pond pumps because I basically made 2 systems but using the same resevoir. The pumps go to the highest 2 channels first which I planted strawberry roots in. All are doing well except 1. The water then flows using gravity until it drains back into the resevoir. The lower 4 have lettuces, tomatoes, zucchini, cauliflower, etc.
I do have some questions though if someone out there has any experience doing this. I used net pots and clay beads. I used the same type of coco coir cone shaped plugs that the aerogarden use in the center of those net pots surrounded by the clay. I germinated in them as well. Some of the net pots have more than 1 plant that is growing. For example I have 3 tomatoes growing in a pot, should I remove 2 of them or let them all grow?
I'm starting to think that coco coir in the net pots might work better for some plants and clay for others, if someone has thoughts on that I'd love to hear it.
What do you use to pollinate, small paint brushes? Can you mix paint brushes? I mean bees don't stick to one type of plant when they forage, do they?
I know that I planted a bunch of stuff with different PH and nutrient needs, but it looks like a PH of 6 and stay around 1000-1100 ppm I should be in the range of what I have growing.
I ordered more lights this morning.
