KGB’s EarthBox Grow

I've never heard of or experienced a long stretch from a immature plant sent into flower.

High N and poor lighting are usually the culprit for stretching unless it's a genetic long leg sativa.

I've flowered plants @21 days above ground and they had a pretty normal stretch.

I have no idea. In my current situation I went reading and this is what dredged up. Probably just bro science and I appreciate the insight.

Here is an odd one for you. I don’t run my tent fan continually until I hit flower. I just let it kick on and off when temps or humidity get out of what I set which is at odds with what most people say. Makes my plants grow better at this stage by keeping my temp and humidity more constant.

SOB with a side of larf...lol. Ya prob should flip them soon if ya plan on having any control. Which will already be difficult with that many under a small net in a small tent.

A single plant needs roughly a 2x2 space to fully develop.

I'd suggest ya flip...right away. Even then you'll prob struggle and have to remove some growth. Good luck.
There will be nothing in this tent but massive rock hard buds. You will see

Day 32

I considered what @greenmobster440 said and yea at day 32 its apparent I need to flip to flower. So, as you can see, I trimmed massive amounts of material off all three plants. My last grow indicated I could trim massive amounts and it won't affect the growth of the plant more than 1 day if that.

I trimmed them one at a time but I did all the trimming at one shot so I provided the original with a tape measure so you get the before and after pictures. The one in the back is so much shorter I made temporary allowance for more vegetation.

And now I can see the water levels so much better. I have a possible cataract surgery and I blew out my knee two days ago so I am going to pass on trying to make seeds this time. Too many trips up and down the basement. From now on it's just water and training

So I thought I would test growth since I am running some time-lapse.

Day 33

After all that defoliation I thought the plants would need to rest for 2 or 3 days before swapping to 12/12 but I was wrong. They took up almost as much water today as they did before defoliation.

So I am thinking 12/12 tomorrow at day 34 from seed in ground

Yep, they look perfect.
Honestly the reason I defoliated all at once was to see if the plant “cared”. It did not as in I cut more than half of the vegetation off all three plants at one time and not a single droop of a leaf and within 24 hours they are all chugging water.

Easiest and most healthy grow ever. I am really stoked

Now if my knee finishes healing I can get back to planning

This is really cool KGB! I’ve been reading up on Earth Boxes now and the concept looks very similar to the GroBucket…..except that you layer in nutrients and lime in your medium.

It’s funny I ran 5 gallon buckets growing tomatoes this year but the layout is so different I couldn’t get it to work the way I wanted. I will be posting my Timelapse and how I prepare my box slightly different for cannabis if a YouTube link is allowed here. Right now my EarthBox is pulling a lot of water but I expect it to pull more when I hit flower.

The floats in the center of the boxes allow me to always stay within the limits of the air bubblers I put in the base of the units. That’s were some of this is coming from. It will all be in my video for a process that’s been a year in the making.

They sell this for like $50

I made these for like $15 each if you can cut holes and pvc I can show you one. I will tell you I couldn’t make it produce as well as the earthbox BUT it does perform or out perform some forms of growing

My bucket system uses two 5 gallon buckets. The pictures will show two pieces of 2 inch PVC pipe. The short one is for wicking and the long one is for watering and to show the water level if inside. Outside just water until flow comes out the bottom hole. It’s important not to water from the top you always water through the pipe after the initial setup. My only mistake on this design is I should have drilled a lot of small holes at the bottom of the short pipe that wicks water up.

I grew tomatoes and peppers and they went the season and produced but the differences in layout meant I would have to add fertilizers and additives when growing which is what I was trying to avoid.

The one bucket sitting in another bucket provides the space for water. You can make it go higher for a bigger water reserve

I bought the three pack of inserts for $55 and I had to buy buckets too. They worked great until the very end when I felt like the salt buildup in the medium was burning my plant. I couldn’t think of any way to flush them either, so the leaves were a little “fried” by the end. If I recall correctly, the ability to flush mid-grow is why I went back to fiber pots on self-feeding bases. I’m curious…..did you flush your tomato plants when you ran your buckets, or did you run into fried leaves towards the end?

Those GroBuckets definitely grow well for most of the grow.

Here is my Gorilla Glue at 7 weeks(still healthy) and 12 weeks (fried!!)

I just let it all grow to the end then we used the soil to transplant some, hostas.

Note that with the earthbox I don’t have to flush and the salt buildup is 90% in one spot. I just dig out that spot and the soil is reusable. I don’t think I will need anymore soil mix, running the two earth boxes, for 2-3 years. I have the mix from my last grow in a big plastic storage box in my basement. It will hold about 4 cubic foot of soil.

Looking forward to following your earth box!! I like low-maintenance grows and new growing techniques, and this offers both. Really cool experiment. I’m sure I could find a way to screw it up.

I’m going back the top of the thread to figure out your medium and what each component provides. This is intriguing,

The only way to screw this up is to not add water because……that’s all you do. And being able to see the water level with a float means never watering to the point water comes out the overflow hole.

Also note you can just use any soil you want as long as it’s understood the final product must have 80-85% peat moss or it will never work. The water in the bottom will turn stagnant and smell like a sewer.

Day 34

So this probably means nothing but I thought it was interesting that when I changed the timing to 12/12 the color of the bud sites also changed color across all three plants. To swap to 12 hours I just extended the dark cycle so now it runs from 10-10

Does it mean anything?

I do timelapses per week and while I am trying to stitch the video together, I realized that I can put last weeks time lapse up on a private listing so you have to have the link to view it and you have to be 18. Note that I swapped to 12/12 on 10/24 as the timelapse has a date stamp so you can see what happens with this method. Take a look at this for some crazy growing in both light and dark.

I am still editing the entire process up to this
