Generally, the orifices for natural gas and propane are different. Propane burns hotter than natural gas, so the orifices are smaller, as are incoming fuel lines. Don't really think it has anything to do with the pressure, but rather the amount of fuel that is being fed to the appliance.

the burner on natural gas is smaller for less flow and the manifold reflects that. the regulator for natural gas line is smaller my tutorial will explain all this as sizes are different due to the pirated components being larger for propane. the idea is you go with your feed size to determine the drill and tap sizes.
