What fine person do I need to talk to about making some infused coconut oil. I believe I have researched enough to no the process but what kind of oil would I be buying and do I really need a cheese cloth or would a coffee filter do? I have a slow cooker but I really can’t use the oven to decarboxylate as my wife wouldn’t think that would be funny with the kiddos around!

Alas, I took enough chemistry to do my job as a manufacturing engineer but am not a chemist. I always turned to the chemical engineers when needed expertise over my head.

On the plus side, the chemistry lab expertise required to do a vegetable oil extraction is minimal, a chemist is not required.

I never decarbed before stuffing it in a crock pot with the oil.

I prefer to decarb after extraction so that I can gauge the progress by the CO2 bubble production.

You can also decarb in situ to avoid smell using a sealed vessel or turkey bag for plant material, as well as an ethanol solution.
