How many plants could efficiently be grown under a 150w HPS in a sea of green style grow in a 2x2 grow box? I'm planning on an 8-week cycle with no veg. at all.

2x2x? you need one more diminsion. And do you already have the hps because you can get a 400 watt hps for $100 on ebay or from insidesun.com. but yea with a 150watt hps if you had like 4 feet of height in your box you could have the light 12 inches away and have like 6 plants maybe more but the l150 watt light is only so many lumens a 400 watt would work alot better.

thc is good for me said:

.... for???
2x2=4 sq. ft. you should shoot for 5,000 lumens of hps, per sq. ft.
On 1 foot centers, you have space for 4 plants. On 6 inch centers... 8 plants.

If you have 4 sq ft, you'd do better with a 250 watt which will give you 6,500 lumens per sq ft. If you go with a 400 w, you'd be at 11,750 lumens per sq ft. Lots of heat issues too with the 400 in that small footprint. It's not always best just to "get the 400 watter".

Your 150 will work, but will give your space only 3,750 lumens per sq ft. The plants under the light will flourish, but the ones in the corners will suffer.

You could also add a 70 watter and use it with your 150 and space the lights out so lumens are evenly distributed through the grow canopy. This would give you 5,300 lumens per sq ft.

I also agree with Pot Belly. Try to get a 70 watt hps in there also and you would be just fine. A 400 watt would be pretty warm in such a small area. If you had good ventilation, it could be done, though. 210 watts would suit you just fine in that area. Are you going to be growing from seed or cloning off of a mother plant? Keep us posted. Take care and be safe.

This is a continuation to my other post (Re-designed Outdoor Grow Shed). Again, I would love to be able to use more watts, but I can't. I seem to be getting a lot of mixed comments on the idea of putting 30 very small plants under this light.

Honestly, I don't understand why it wouldn't work. 4" pots, 6 rows of 5 plants, giving each plant about a 4" x 5" of space. If anyone has an idea other than using a different light for me, please let me know.

you could add a few cfl's to the mix as well..i know some ppl scoff at them, but as a supplement..2 -42 watters, extra 5000+ lumens, and low heat so you can get em pretty close to the plants(2-3 inches) i have a bunch of corn and peppers under 4-42 watters from walmuck $6 per,2700 lumens each

Yo bro, the plants need room to grow. If you were an experienced grower you might be able to pull it off...

View attachment 55030howdy OWS, ive done as many as 3 per sq ft with no veg and that was my best yet.did 24 in my 2x4 tray and the biggest one was 17in tall at harvest. one big cola. cut my space in half and you got your space...but i do have a 400. id say 8-12,treat em right and youll get some of dis!

I agree. 8-12 plants in that space would be better than 30 plants. Just my thoughts. Take care and be safe.
