New beginnings

First time grower. Just dropped my first two in water and are off to the races. On the east coast. Mid Atlantic. For the first grow I wanted to keep it simple, nostalgic and experiment with all the amazing information I’ve come across from this wonderful community. I Decided to go with some Lemon OG Auto Fem. Going to start them in one gallon orchid pots the up pot with a little mykos In a 2 gallon fabric bag on some self watering bases. with some inspiration from @Carty one of the pots will be filled with Roots Organic original and Fox Farm Strawberry fields 50/50 combo. In the second bag with inspiration from @greenmobster440 I’m going to mix up 3 cu yard peat moss with 6 bags of Perlite.
Nutrients will be Jack Original 20-20-20,Calnit and Epsom until bloom then switch to jacks blossom booster 10-30-20 cal nit and Epsom. Going to be running em on a 20 on 4 off schedule to start and see how it goes. If I’m missing anything, all suggestions are greatly appreciated. Looking forward to seeing everyone’s updates. Thank you! I believe I misspoke and realized it was your original post that was about peat moss perlite ratio. yes I have been doing a lot of homework haha and really appreciate you guys sharing all your experiences. I will be sure to return the favor and share my steps and missteps!

We used to have a member on here named dogster that turned me onto peat and Jacks.
A bunch of us have adopted the method, along with our own little tweaks.
Greenmobster mixes his Calnit in with Jacks.
I mix a jug of Calnit/Epsom separately.
I mix Jacks bloom, and veg, at 1/2 teaspoon per gallon.
The Calnit/Epsom I run about 2 cups of water in a gallon jug, dissolve 1/2 teaspoon of Calnit in it, then add 1/4 teaspoon of Epsom, totally dissolve it, then finish filling the jug.
Everyone of us on here loves the simplicity. None of us Ph anything.
I think we all felt like we were jumping off a cliff when we quit using Ph meters, but it’s worked out great, and we all love the simplicity.

Good to know! is that a personal preference or pretty hard rule of thumb. I am very green. And probably ask a lot or silly questions. my initial thought was get it rolling, after the seeds emerge, give it a week or so of water. Then start off with 1/8 tsp per gallon of jacks. Then once I’m able to take off the cotyledons, I was going to go 1/4-1/4-1/4 jacks, calnit, Epsom, thinking if I give smaller doses through out the grow instead of spiking it with nutes down the line. Although now saying it out loud makes it sound very black and white when there is probably alot of gray area that will come with experience.

Your on the right track. I use just jacks at first 1/8 jacks 1/8 epsom for seedlings, after a few weeks they get 1/4. About 4+wks I start the calnit, Jack's, Epsom 1/4 ea.

I'm a Jack's and Promix guy, too. 1/2 tsp/gallon, backing off a bit if i see burn. I use calmag at 3-4 ml per gallon after veg is established until two weeks from chop. Feed every watering unless the plant shows me differently. KISS works for me.

Again, your thinking outside the box. I like the way ya do things Jan. That's an interesting approach. I'd be concerned of that being reached out pretty quick.

Them balls are pretty big and I water every day just till I see water seeping out. I only did a few. In case it only meant in ground and not in pot. They don't dissolve that fast. I think they will be ok. We will have to wait and see

Lemon OG Auto Fem is off to the races. Both are in two gallon felt pots. I filled them half way with soil, tossed a little mykos in, watered lightly to compact naturally, filled the rest of the pot, leaving 1” from the top. In case I need to add soil down the road. One has 50/50 strawberry fields x Roots organic original blend. And the other has peat moss x perlite blend. 3 cubic yard bag peat moss w/ 6 x 8quart bags of perlite. Poked a little hole in the soil, sprinkled a dash of mykos, covered and used an eye dropper to get er started. I Got a LED lamp that’s about 400 watts, in veg mode about 24” from the pot. For the rest of the week they will be on a water only diet. I will report back in a week.

That sounds like an exciting start to your growing journey! Using Lemon OG Auto Fem is a great choice, and your plan for potting and nutrient mixing looks solid. The combination of Roots Organic and Fox Farm soils should provide a nice nutrient base, and adding peat moss with perlite will help with drainage and aeration. Just keep an eye on your plants for any signs of stress, and don’t hesitate to adjust your nutrient regimen as they grow. Best of luck, and I can’t wait to see your progress!
