I was told by a friend that pot plants love lightning and that I should put them outside during a lightning, rain storm every chance I get. Is this true or is it just a bunch of crap?

dude it would burn them....lightning can cause forest fires. plus the chances of being hit are nil.

Ya good idea specially if you carry a graphite fishing rod with you or heck take the golf clubs with you so you dont look to strange running around with potted plants in a lightning storm! Have fun doctor electrode!!!

Sorry friend no disrespect but that has got to be the funniest thing I have heard on this site. Who ever told you that smokes way to much!

Cheers!!!

he could get one of those umbrella hats......

Better make it a propeller hat, it might give him some manuveral ability when one of those lightning bolts blasts a hole in his arse!!

LMAO

Cheers!!!

sexi i would smack the "friend" who told you that....

You're right I should, but I grow outdoor plants anyway, so I guess if they did like lightning then they're already in place.

Yes lightning can be of great benefit to plants. This is due to the fact that lightning, even one flash of lightning, can give off enough electrical energy to make oxygen and nitrogen gases in the air combine. This forms nitric oxide which then dissolves in the rain and becomes nitric acid as it hits the ground.
All plants need nitrogen to grow. This is why fertlisers contain nitrogen, often as the main ingredient. However, very few plants can actually obtain nitrogen from the air. They may be able to source a little, but not enough to be of great benefit. So plants depend on getting at least some of the nitrogen they need from the electro-chemical reaction which is caused by lightning.
This is why after thunder and lightning and the associated rain, the garden always seems refreshed and green for a few days afterwards. The plants have absorbed the nitrogen and have had a natural fertiliser applied...take care..

You can borrow my hat :)

People, you really shouldn't make fun of intelligent suggestions regarding certain scientifically verified information until you have all the facts.

The presence of ferrous sulfide as a visible black precipitate in the growth medium, when placed in metallic containers can be used to establish microorganisms that produce the cysteine metabolizing enzyme tetrahydrocannibinol delta 9. The resulting microbacterial growth contains the amino acid cysteine and a chemical indicator, ferric citrate. The catalysis of cysteine releases hydrogen sulfide gas that reacts with the ferric citrate to produce copious amounts of resin in the plant. Like most pharmacologically-active secondary metabolites of plants, according to the electrostatic induction hypothesis, charges are driven apart by as-yet uncertain processes. Charge separation appears to collide with crystals in the soil to form a soft mixture called graupel. The collisions result in a slight positive charge being transferred to the crystals, and a slight negative charge to the graupel. The heavier negatively charged graupel then falls toward the middle and lower portions of the plant, building up an increasing negative charge. Charge separation and accumulation continue until the electrical potential becomes sufficient to initiate a lightning discharge, which occurs when the distribution of positive and negative charges forms a sufficiently strong electric field.

Now, with the aid of Art's hat design (although Art I'm surprised you didn't tell people that they must be totally nude in order for the hat to be effective), we should all run around our yards with our plants in hand during the next big storm.

BBFAN....what are the chances that lightning would hit close to his house? maybe in some areas but def not where I live. If the plants are budding which in this season most outdoors are then it would ruin the buds to have them soaked in a rainstorm..

why dont you think it through?? logically waiting for lightning to hit near a certain spot or even close to a certain spot is nil in most areas..Nil meaning a chance ina million or worse (hence us teasing about ways to draw lightning) heck lets wait for a unicorn too.. so yes lets all put our pot out and wait for lightning...YOU FIRST...lol shoot go buy some lightning rods and put them on your house...LMAO... watch for fire. and if lord forbid it hit too close to his plants they could light up...lightning causes fires...

 I didn't want to jack his thread (I don't know why, I do it all the time), BBFan, but I did leave out a few important operating instructions as you pointed out.

I found it funny
Forgive me if I have upset all the ROCKET Scientist here. It was not my intention to dis anyone here. But gee really close your eyes and envision his original question. Besides he admits his plants are outdoors now it seemed his initial question would have you beleive his plants were indoors!

With the amount of true geniuses here and all their scientific knowledge its hard to beleive the myth that MG causes brain damaged people

I kneel before your massive brains, sorry but not.

I ment no disrespect but take a close look at the openning to this thread.

Cheers!!!

I believe it.

Cannabis reacts in strange ways to the weather, and sometimes a little stress gets you waaay better bud.

Try it with one or two and see what happens.

lightning is predisposed to strike wherever the ground is charged with negative ions.

Holding up a conductor such as a metal pole does not attract lightning unless the ground extension (metal pole or anything conductive) is grounded in a negatively charged area.

ergo, lighting can and will only strike where it is "possible", not wherever a conductor is protruding from the ground.

little fiy

Are you for real? Do you read before you post?

I apologize that you can not see a joke when written.

Well, I knew you would get it Art.

For the others- what I wrote is a bunch of gobble-d-****! It was a joke.
That's why it doesn't make any sense. It's called irony.

I just wanted a straight answer. If you didn't want to give me one then you shouldn't have posted a reply.

As I said
I ment no disrespect Sir or Mame
You might want to find a different site to hang out in especialy if you cant take a little ribbing from time to time and especially if your not prepaired to clean up your mouth!

I suggest you read the rules here my friend
