Well the truck that just won’t leave have us another present. First, we had to pull the engine to have a cylinder head replaced. But parts dept ordered the wrong side head. So we had it repaired. Reinstalled by another tech. He bent the valve while timing it and we didn’t know till it was running. Engine comes back out. Pull heads and send both to machine shop. Get them back, cam bearing journal looks like it was media blasted. Send both heads back. Get heads back today and the guy putting the heads on is confused. I come over there and damn if we don’t have two left side cylinder heads. Call machine shop. They say they didn’t do it. Only one set heads at the time for this engine. Well we dang sure didn’t pull two left side heads off this engine.
I don’t believe in voodoo but sometimes I wonder
I used to rebuild cylinder heads, including racing heads (double hump - angle plug 350 Chevy heads). We did welding, new seats, rotary broach, new cam journals, etc. We pressure tested them for leaks. We did it all, aluminum and cast iron. Tractor heads, too.

We used to encounter incompetent mechanics and machine shops, and had to set them straight. We put heat tabs on our rebuilt heads, and the center would melt if it overheated - which was Not our fault... So, check your thermostat, water pump, or whatever. But it will cost you to fix the head that you f'd up.

Any of the rest of you eat seafood on Fridays?

Was remembering the concerts I used to go to, and the most memorable one was Metallica - Guns and Roses at Arrowhead Stadium in '96. GnR was late, so Metallica played another set that lasted almost 2 hours! I was down in the mosh pit, slam dancing and acting wild. Weed was everywhere, and a little alcohol made it through, too. Fun times!

It was really cool when Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee had his drum set lifted into the air, spun upside-down and all while he was drumming his ass off! It spun back upright, lowered down and the whole band hammered out the rest of the song. Wild!

Needless to say, I used to be pretty wild in my younger years. The 90's was my decade of decadence, working at the shop. We worked hard, partied hard and had a blast doing it. When Big John died, and Frank "The Bank" took over, things fell apart and the shop closed down. Alcohol and other party favors played a major role in all of that...

It was very sad. It was a small family-owned business that was very successful - until Big John died (Frank's dad). I had driven by the old shop years later, and it was a used car business. Frank's trailer was still on the property, which is where a lot of the parties took place.

Today was payday, so we had a lot of errands to run. My baby is asleep, so I am sitting in my favorite chair smoking a bowl and eating some of the cinnamon hard candy that my friend made (about 20 mg THC each piece). He is going to be rolling through Oklahoma in a couple of weeks, so I will have a fresh supply of bud and those 100 mg gummies. Yay!

What's your temps like Jag? I was just outside and it quite cold here. I'm fixing to get smoked out and try and get back to sleep. Another hour and it's coffee time. Not ready to throw in the towel just yet on sleep. Know anything about Corvettes?

Hey, it's 45 and clear right now. Yeah, I have been smoking all night/morning, and it's looking like I will be drinking coffee soon and pushing on through the day.

On the Corvettes, I know we did some R & R's (repair and return), valve jobs. We would get sets of aluminum 350 heads - they wanted us to rotary broach the surface and take off a specific amount from each head (usually .0015 to .0020, the machine did all of the calibration), to increase compression in the cylinders. We even did Caterpillar heads for the Department of Transportation, and farmers would bring in their tractor heads. I did so many different types cylinder heads, I used to dream at night about repairing them. Welding aluminum with a TIG rig was a craft, and to do it correctly so they don't leak was very important.
