One of our hires went through school twice before they finally just threw an AA in auto tech at him to finally get him out the door. There are a lot of smart guys fixing cars, but it's difficult, dirty, hot, heavy, often taxing work - and too many folks seem to not want to WORK. It's the same in all the trades. Plumbing ain't real easy either. Or carpentry.
That's at least part of why there's a nationwide shortage of skilled/trades people today.

My air conditioning man’s name is HUNG, he’s Vietnamese but he’s got a great personality. I’m having a hard time keeping him quiet. He asked me to make sure I kept Ivan out on the back porch and Dutch as well… if all goes well, and I don’t get into an argument and throw him off the property today I should have my tent up and running…

{snork} I knew a Viet named Dong Dung. <-- Thass how it was spelled, but the proper pronunciation was Zong Zung. There has to be a dash through the D to make it a hard "dee" sound.

I've got a soft spot for the Hmong. Their food is wipe-out for us Big Noses.

There is a story about some wounded Hmong sojers in a hospital, and they complained to their boss that they were not being given real food, only "hot water that smells of dead chicken".

My dad was a self employed carpenter his whole life.
We don’t really have any building codes out here in the sticks, so dad built them from the ground up.
Of course, that was my summer job growing up, and my permanent job straight out of high school.
A lot of concrete came with all that.
I ended up on a dedicated concrete crew for a couple of years, before ending up in the career that I landed in.
Dad died in 2020, but I still have all his finishing tools, and still pour a little concrete from time to time.

Outta the chair and off to the cardio doc for one of those wearable EKG thingies that I'll be packin' for a week, and then off to the tavern, which is up for sale.

I think China purchased all that land last year. they used a Giant Balloon to do high altitude studies of the geological minerals in the Earth . Then purchased it as fast as if they stole it.

My undying respect, sir. My dad was a carpenter. I never did any flat work, but I've hauled enough wheelbarrows full of wet 'crete, concrete blocks, bricks, stones and lumber and **** to last a lifetime. We didn't have conveyors, and I was also the guy that hauled nails, tarpaper and shingles up the ladder after the plywood whenever he did a roof. By 15, my hands were fully calloused.

That may be part of the reason I got in to mechanicin'. It's easier.
