I used to grow with hydro, but I heard it'll get more heavy bud when using soil, so should I switch it or leave it the way it is now? How many plants do you guys usually grow under a 1000 watts hps? And how much do you guys get from them? Also, if I switch to soil, can I use dripping system to it? :hairpull:

Do what ever works for you. I grow in dirt but I have seen some really impressive results from hydro.

How many plants do you guys usually grow under a 1000 watts hps?

More importantly than number of plants is how large the grow area is. The light is good for 28 square feet, you could use it in a larger area but it would be less effective, and obviously it would be better in a smaller room but would build up more heat. Depending on how long you veg for and how tall you let the plants get will determine how many you can fit in that area.

And how much do you guys get from them?

I'm assuming you mean yield. This vary's greatly from grower to grower and from strain to strain. You said you used to grow hydro, how much did you get from them?

Also, if I switch to soil, can I use dripping system to it?

The short answer is yes, but you want to let your dirt dry out completely in between waterings, you would be better off watering manually. Constantly damp soil is a playground for mold and algae. So if you planned on doing a continuous slow drip, I would discourage you from doing so.

So where did you hear this? Did it come from a reliable source with evidence to back up the statement? I have never seen a soil grow that outperformed a hydro grow in any side-by-side comparisions.

Im staying soil..not that it grows bigger..I do believe HYdro Has better uptake..I just like getting dirty...when i first read this post..I was :yay: about time I read someone going from Hydro to soil..Im tired of hereing people switahing from soil to hydro..Well maybe cuzz its easier too.. anyway..Good luck on what ever you chose..if you Go Organic soil..look me up:bolt::bong:

Not to be an *** but 4U, those first three pics look like an indica and the last three look like a straight up sativa. How can you compare two way different strains?

crazy that this is a topic... i have thought about it already.. i am still on my first grow and i am using an aero system... i have considered switching to soil because of a recent article in High Times Magazine called the Wizard of Buzz i tried to find a link, but you need to buy the magazine to read the article.

anyway, this master of growing says that hydro is great for mass and quickness... there is no question, but one thing stands out in soil and that is the taste..

you get true blueberry, strawbery, skunks... the way it should be...

i spend every day in the garden, so i think it might be fun... plus hydro and aero is so damn easy... there is no reason i should be doing so well on my first try!.. haha!
:D

and i agree, i love sativa leaves... so raunchy and rough looking...

I veg my plants to about 12-15 inches tall, and planning to put 9 of them into a 4X4 area under a 1000 watts hps, do you think this number of plants is okay or should I go more or less?

I'm assuming you mean yield. This vary's greatly from grower to grower and from strain to strain. You said you used to grow hydro, how much did you get from them?

I get about 1.2# per light (I don't think this is a good result), and I am trying to get up to 1.5 to 2 # per light....

Of course I will let the dirt to dry out completely in between watering, so I will put a timmer on it.
And thanks again for all the advices you have gave me.

isn't it because soil already has some nutrients in it, and hydro doesn't...

I've grown in soil, but a very long time ago, and in a different climate. Nobody has mentioned coco so far. I grow in coco and prefer it to soil but have never tried hydro. Would someone who has used the three different media like to comment? Like for instance is coco closer to soil or to hydro?

It depends on how you use the coco. Massproducer's cocobuckets are much closer to hydro than soil, but coco can be used in more traditional ways like dirt, but needs fed more often than massproducers way. I add a lot of Perlite to my Happy Frog soil, it is really thick and the perlite helps with that, my buddy adds coco to his and loves it.

I use DWC and Neopreme as my medium,,even for my seedlings. Soon as the head pops the Neopreme insert goes into the Bubbler and from there to the bigger DWC. No mess at all. Freaken tap root grows so fast its unreal.:hubba:
