how to tell sex

after years of dealing with a medical system that is totaly incompetent, and with the blessing of my G.P. i have decided to try and grow my own medication. i will be using the instructions for indoor, in soil, with fluorecent lights from the opening of the home page. i have 6 seeds that i germinated in damp paper towels and will plant them and turn on the lights today. my first question of what will probably be many is, when the plants get to the three week stage what is the best way to tell the female plants from the ones that you put out with the trash. okay, two questions. my little green house is in a heated attatched garage. as fall is coming here in western Canada, what is a good temperature to keep the plants at. thankyou for your help. mb

I'm not sure that even an expert can tell at three weekls. Normally people wait until they are mature enough to make them flower, and then they wait and see.

I believe that 75 degrees is the best average temperature for growing MJ.

Hey GG1964. How can you determine the sex of plants that are only 3 weeks old? I've heard of ways to determine with some consistency the sex of a plant before it has been put into flowering, maybe you could tell us how you know their sex? I know for example, that often times male plants have longer internodes than females.

....the "ONLY" way to tell is by the flowers. Sexually mature plants will express "pre-flowers" that indicate sexual preferance, and can usually be observed at 4-8 weeks of veg.

thankyou Alistair for your reply and the photos, and to all the other lads who stepped up to help me out. i havent done this since 1969, with seed from a bag of cheap weed in the bush. planted today. will see what comes up. if i have doubts in about 8 weeks i will post some photos. thanks again Mike

Indoors or out doors Hick for preflowers?

Both or either KGB... usually about the same week that it starts to 'alternate' nodes. BUT.. even to the experienced eye, pre-flowers can be difficult to distinguish early on.
