I am just curious how many people are growing autos. I understand that photos as well as autos have their benefits and drawbacks. For me autos just make sense. I am a little surprised that it seems so few people on here are growing autos. If you grow autos, tell me about your experiences and what you grow now and why.

I may need to do several runs with autos to further my strains and continue the work making it perfect. I want to get this pheno in maui’s beast. Maybe once it said and done there will be several beast strains I hone in. This girl sure is pretty though.

You've not met Carty yet. He's not growing right now due to a move but he's our usual go to auto guru. Hell prob pop in on this thread.

Autos don't make sense to me but I will grow them from time to time. Why don't they make sense? It's a time and effort thing. Both photos and autos require the same care and resources and in many cases take damn near as long as a photo run.

Basically same time in flower. Absolutely no comparison to photos.

I'm not against autos at all. They are a fun compact plant but I prefer a good return on my efforts and I just can't get that with autos. Outdoors..awesome. I'd run a dozen but indoors I'm paying the bill so I want all I can get.

Same here. Hard to justify taking up my limited tent/greenhouse space. Not to mention i like to reveg and take clones from a plant that did exceptionally well. So even if i did pay alot for a pack of seeds, i can get tons of hand selected clones if i wish.

Autos are 1 and done with a far worse return on my investment.

Here is a Gabagoo auto that I have going right now.

And here is a Gorilla Glue auto that started to sprout yesterday.
I am getting ready to start running photos 12/12 from seed, so I am currently in the process of filling my veg tent with autos.
These are the only two I have going so far.

I like not having to worry about light leaks and changing my time schedule. I also like that i dont need to take clones. I just dont want to keep a grow gojng that long. If i was a photo grower, id still be using fem seeds each grow. I feel confident that with enough time, you can get as good as result with autos as you can photos.

I dont mind tossing a couple autos outside to supplement a summer grow but no way i would rely on them for yield. Not when ive gotten 7ozs dried/trimmed off 1 indoor fem plant and i can turn around and do it again with a reveg........Thats exactly what i got in my tent right now is a known good mother with bud i know for sure i like. Plus i handed out a couple clones.

I will probably toss a couple outside this spring though just so i have something to harvest early. Neighbors know and seem cool about it so i will look for a more sunny spot this year.

Im just growing one auto right now. Because I had some room.

But this last year it is what Ive been doing. My favourite is RQSs Quick One. Lovely weed, good yielding genetics and easy to grow and the cheapest genetics I can get in my local shop. Its not super strong by any means, but the taste and smell is amazing. They call it an 8 week strain but I never finished one in less than 11.

If an auto strain takes say 14 weeks to finish I think it is pretty pointless. I would rather grow a photo and have some control over it at that point. Ive grown a couple of auto plants that has grown really big and taken up unnecessary space for what they have yielded.

Where autos shine in my book is situations where you cant give the necessary PPFD in 12 hours. Right now Im running an auto under 24/7 and a small chinese growlight. I wish there had been autos around when I was a kid. Ive seen two quite impressive window seal grows with autos. Perfect for those settings.

Buds are in my experience fluffier with autos. It doesn't bother me much personally but yeah.

I was messing around with nutrition for a while there. What seems to work the best is to start ramping up flowering nutrition as soon as its "a plant". Autos act a lot like photos if you ever ran a photo on 12/12 from the start.

Training. Ive topped them. It works out fine but you have to do it early on and youll add a week or two to your harvest time.

This is my experience :)

Autos are all I grow. I'm at day 60 of a Northern Lights plant, 34 inches tall. Sits in the corner of my office with 900 "watts" of LED light 20/4 with some aluminum foil to shield and reflect the light. A Fabreze Plug-in smooths out the smell. I take it outside for sun every day (after flowering has started) when the weather's fine as it usually is this time of year. Last years NL produced a heavy yield with potent nugs. Soil comprises of Organic potting soil, peat moss, vermiculite, pearlite & 3 Tbs of Bat Guano in a 2.5 gallon plastic pot. Right now I'm using off the shelf bloom booster during it's flowering stage. Easy. Works for me.

900 watts seems like a lot for 1 auto in a 2.5 gallon pot. But aside from that, that's awesome! I keep telling myself I'm going to start growing some photos, and I still may, but I don't think I'll ever stop growing autos. I really do want to do a scrog grow once or maybe twice, so I will probably do a run with photos eventually... but I already have my summer grow, and 2 indoor grows for next year planned out, and there is no room for anything but autos.

Sone people run their photos 12/12 from start to finish. I might try that with my girls I just sank.

If ya do that I'd let them be seedlings for 2 wks then flip. Seems to help things along.

I would be interested to see that... maybe run them for just 1 or 2 weeks at 18/6 and then flip them.
It's a proven method that many use. With a early flip photo the plant will usually end up about the size of a large auto.

Many set it up as a continuous harvest type setup. Feeding in plants as they pull for harvest. Great way to burn through seed and strains.

I statred my girls a bit late. I usually grow autos in winter, the photos messed up my schedule. I am looking to catch up. It is what it is. Last year this time my girls were about 1 ft tall already. This year I can barely get these girls to play.

As I launch into this brave new world of fufu hybrid crap weed. I've decided to embrace the auto. I've always kept a side eye on what was going on in the auto world since Lowryder and a few early strains. And even then for folks that needed small box, computer case and stealth bonsai grows I saw them as worth while. Heck when I got busted for growing back in the day I was forcing flower with photos in a bonsai box grow. So I've always grew a few autos here and there to stay abreast of their existence. And with fast flowering genetics coming online now concerning photos and autos,,, Lord only know what's going to happen in the future. I think the days of photos ruling the roost are coming to a end. And many people are having trouble with that notion as I have with all this crap fufu hybrid weed. So I will face the future kicking and screaming a bit and pretty much have one tent for autos and the other photos.

If i grow any photos, it will be indoors. I have said several times now that I'll never grow outdoors again because I can't control the elements. And I have lost too many plants to bugs, slugs, the weather... but I'm going to try doing 4 autos outdoors again this year. I wish they would legalize it where I'm at. I think I could do well with autos outdoors, maybe even photos if I could grow them on my back patio and keep a good eye on them like I do my veggie garden.
