I was sitting on the bow of my boat this morning and noticed a seagull in distress out in the middle of the bay. She kept trying to fly, but there was something holding her down. I took my dingy out there and sure enough, she had some fishing line tied around her wing and tail, and though she could move around in the water, she could not fly. My dingy is very tender, and I could not get close enough to get my fishing net over her, so I went to the marina and got someone with a bigger boat to take me out there. Caught her on the first pass and pulled her into the boat -- she bit Hell out of my friend. I pried her beak off of his finger, and we managed to get her untied. About half way through the operation she seemed to realize we were trying to help and calmed down -- she flew away as soon as we put her back in the water -- pretty cool :)

Peace

Kudo's to you friend I love hearing a happy ending.

Aw Hemper, you sweet guy, that is good karma. I can't imagine a seagull's bite, my cockatiel bite hurts. Poor guy. I am sure the bird appreciates the kind sailor.

:aok: Good work hemper. Its not really the same but to admit I have cut lazy fishermen lines when they bait them and tie them to the bank. Around here there are far too many turtles and everytime you see one of those lines with a fish on it. Its always half eaten or being attacked by a turtle right then. They should really outlaw this type of fishing around here the fisherman lose at least half the fish they catch anyway.

Hopefully these rednecks will never see me do it though lol good thing my boat is fast!

Good job Hemper. Bet the seagulls now dump on just your neighbors boats:aok:

Lemon as long as a fisherman has his name and a contact info theres nothing wrong with running a trot line or 2 as long as there checked daily. It's the guys that put them out them come back 4 or a week even to check them. those are the guy to put their lines an and tie something heavy to it.

I suppose its there right but it seems awful you see one floppin around and go pull it up and by the time you get there it just a fish head on a hook? The poor little fish doesn't even have a chance to get away.

Thats why you have to run the lines most the time turtles won't eat on fish til their dead. and if you want the fish to eat, you really don't want to eat fish that died on the line in water.

So what yual be sayin is yu be catchin dinner then lettin it go? I fur one cant grasp the concept but dont go lightin torches be they way of life for folk in the backwoods to catch and eat not catch an make friends.

Just yankin to yur ankles pilgrem what ever float yur dingy gettin yual one step down the karma trail into the good book reckon be alright by me. Glad yual didnt lose an eye in the encounter. Just be careful partner I tried to help a badger out once found out the hard way he wasnt smilin at me while I was holdin his back tail more like a warnin grin before he ate at me a bit. Ran through the woods like little school girl to screamin like one too. Dont tell the story much.

Karma is a good thin pilgem and it always come a round.

I'm not a big fisherman myself I just enjoy hanging out on the lake getting stoned in the sun and swimming. Ya know living the good life. I guess I'm not much of a country boy
. When I fish I always toss em back. I wouldn't even know where to start to prepare a live fish lol.

Thank you, BackWoods -- I am not against hunting at all -- I just don't like to see any animal suffer. I have spent a fair bit of time in the woods. Had my own encounter with a badger once -- didn't get bit, but I must admit, I was the little school girl that day. You growin any herb out in them mountains?

Peace

"Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, feed him for....blah, blah, blah" I'm not hungry enough to go fishing, and I live on the water. I do know how to fish tho, and if things go bad, and I do get hungry, I know there is a 20lb bass right under my boat -- any day of the week.

Beautiful country, and a nice pile of fish -- I spend summers in N. Idaho -- love the mountains, but winters are spent down S. here -- here is a pic of boJangles -- he's the latest addition to the family -- I have 6 wild ducks just about domesticated -- I like to think of them as emergency rations.

I DO have a small grow going on in the old boat -- look in "Cheese" in the "General indoor Growing" forum. Cheese, Satori, AK-47, and a couple of little Mnt. Bud plants from Canada. I'm looking for a piece of land this summer, either in N. Idaho or Washington. I will eventually live up there most of the year, but I can't see getting rid of this boat. It has probably averaged 68 degrees here this winter, and I have NO elecreic bill :)

Pilgem ifin yur hat be happy were it hang then dont take it off the hook, means yur hair is free too. Much luck yur travels friend

Kewl baby, kewl. Being kind to animals elevates us humans to a higher, more enjoyable, plane of existance. Some people refer to this as "Karma". Sounds good to me.

I think that's awesome!! :)

Everyone, please tear up those plastic rings that hold 6 packs together. They are so dangerous to wildlife. Twice I've seen them wrapped around a ducks head. :( its a start..
