Drip Irrigation Calculation

Had a little idea when I was playing outside with the dog just now...let me know if i'm high or have some merit to my wandering mind or if i should stay off the home grown all together??

I have an excess of 2.5 gallon jugs around my house from time to time, and was wondering if I could reuse them for the summer grow. I heard of a similar type of drip system on some grow dvd, but I thought I'd try to put some numbers on it.

2.5 gallon jug with tapper that can be adjusted for drip rate very easily.

2.5 gal =145,920.07075 drops of water

now if i painted them with camo spray paint and put down 2 at each plant i'd have 5gal or 291,840.1415 drops/plant.

in my climate i know i should be around 2.5gal/wk supplimental (outside of mother nature's help) water to each plant. so with 5 gallons i could leave unattended for 2weeks. 1,209,600 seconds/291,840.1415=0.2412 or 1 drop every 4 seconds from one five gallon container or 1 drop every 8 sec from both containers.

whoa...mind melt. i'm testing this in a spare sink right now so maybe i can update this if i'm not too :stoned:

yahoo has all kinds of wonderful calculations...i really can't take credit...

however, if you counted drops per second, and timed how long it took to drain a gallon you could....

you would be better off with the 5 gallon water jug..I made one Last year hooked a timer to it and .5 gallon drippers..let gravaty work 4me..and I say smoke more Homegrown..its how we comeup with chit..:bong:

that watered 6 plants for 2 weeks.. I can post some pics of it if you like? I broke it down but have for if need to be gone fo some time..I have updated my shed stop in my friend..I know theres a lot of chatting in there but I have a lot going on as well..My DIY drip system I can add more of the 5 gallon water bottles just need to have them higher then the plants..Hope this helps..and good to see you my friend:bolt::bong:

I heard drip systems drown the roots. Will they be fine if it is just a slow drip? Anyone know what kind of gph i need to have for them?
