degenerative_disc,

Buy it IF the label lists one of the voltages that matches whatever power you have available.

Check my thread in my signature about converting to remote ballasts, which also covers changing the voltage from one to another one on the label, and then search the DIY for Tater's thread on building reflectors.

In my experience, a square or rectangular reflector is better than a round one.

Remote ballasting lets you use the ballast outside of the grow areaand keeps it a little cooler. I would use it in conjunction with the HPS to give both more light but also more red spectrum for flowering than the MH alone.

If heat becomes and issue, Tater's reflector/hood is designed to be air cooled and you could easily remote ballast both your MH and your HPS, lengthen out Tater's design and put both the MH and HPS in the same air cooled hood.

Incidentally, mine cost me $30 but I was buying in bulk and from wholesalers. Between my oldest son and I, we bought 15 of these, remote ballasted them and he resold his for over $100 each, so $40 is a good deal IF and only if the label lists 120v and/or 240v, which ever you have available in your room.

Good smoking.

Good smoking.

Thanks folks for the great tips!
It says in the add that these lights have all been converted to 120v plug in. Says all you need to do is just plug them into standard socket and away you go. From what I am getting here about this light it would be a wise move to go ahead and buy it and I think thats what I am going to do, for $40 bucks I cant realy go wrong can I?

Cheers!!!

DD although it looks like a bargain I'd be inclined to give it a miss (unless you needed one for a work space) and just pick up a unit on eBay or Craiglist or whatever.

Used hydro gear is practically worthless.

I would not go any bigger than the 4 x 3 you have now (and you will still be somewhat underlit)--A 400W MH will put out about 36000 lumens and a 150 HPS about 15000 lumens. You are good for about 10 sq ft.

Thanks Smokingjoe but why do you think I should pass on it? Its only $40 and with a new bulb Im thinking good deal?

Thanks THG!
I think if I figure a way to incorperate the 400w with my 2 150 hps bulbs and my 6 flos I would be running about 76200 lumens in my 3' by 4' space. If I am not wrong thats alot of lumens for a small space, should be more then enough for 2 plants at a time dont you think?

Cheers!!!
