If they are done on top and you want to do this. I'd cut them off close to where marked and let them lowers finish to your liking.

So I did what you said. Been drying for 6 days. Trimmed and this is what I have smells good. Smelled like hay until I trimmed all the leaves off the buds. Have it in a jar now. About 20 grams.

Don't forget to burp 'em now and then. Hate to lose a crop to mold at this stage.

That's something ya kinda gotta figure out. Once you've done it a couple of times, you can tell by the feel. If I'd just jared it, I'd open the jars once a day for 15-30 minutes for a day or two and then wait a couple of days. If it dries out too much, you can rehydrate it. If it's too wet and you get mold, it's only good for making butter.

They make little gadgets that you can stick in the jar that'll tell you the humidity. I've never used 'em, but someone that has will chime in.
Ok. So why do we jar ? I’ve heard people jaring for a long time. Does it make the smell and taste better ? I mean it smokes good the way it is ?

Something about once the moisture content gets down so far, you want it to finish drying at an extremely slow pace. Some sort of science stuff involved. You should notice the weed smell and flavor get better, enhance the terpenes and what not. The hay, grass type smell will be gone more better. ;) Supposedly. You may not notice it up front but when you open the jars to pull out a couple J's in a couple weeks, You should def notice a difference if done right - In theory anyways. Open the jars and carefully take your weed out and let it breath for an hour and stick it back in for several days in a row. My last couple harvests, I dried until it would smoke and shoved it all in grove bags and stuck half under my bed and the other half in the freezer. Never burped anything. Worked out great so far.

Yes it smelled like hay really bad. Then I trimmed it and it got way better smell. Jared it this morning and just checked and smells it and it starting to smell great now. Crazy. I think the leafs are what give it that chat smell or at least seems to add to the hay smell cause once I trimmed all that off hay smell was almost gone. Thanks for reply’s.

Open the jars for how long and how often? . Also my son smoked some and said it was very good. But I’ve read to jar for several weeks. Why and how long ?
Thanks man.
I only burb them every day the first week for about 20 minutes. then week 2 every other day 10 minutes. Then every so often for 10 minutes. After 2 month I dont burb no more except when Im getting buds out.. lol. I have switched to grove bags. They are better to me but not fir everyone.

What if some of the buds have amber but others don’t ?
Some buds may finish faster than others. Tops usually finish first, followed by the lower growth shortly after. Could be a week between the finish of the top vs lower buds.

Just make sure you have no clear trichs left on the plant. 50% amber is hard to get with the entire plant at the exact same time unless your canopy is very even with lower and upper growth on the same level.

The most important part is NO CLEAR. If you are 80% milky 20% amber, you can harvest. But most of us would wait a few more days. 2-3 days could make a huge difference in finished product. Wait too long and you start to lose potential.
Here's a pic to keep handy.
Trichs 4 5 and 6 are best. 7 is almost to the point of broken head.

If this is your first grow, just make sure you remember everything you learn from this one. Come back with another and it will turn out even better.
I've grown bag seed from a $10 sack bought of some random dude that has turned out better than some of the purchased genetics grown previously. It's all about how much knowledge you can retain for your next experience.
