Cheapest route for 8 plants

I have a 1000w HPS in hand ready to use for flowering, it's just I feel this is too strong for vegging. So I figure CFLs should get me through the veggitative phase, I just don't know how many I would need to keep a healthy batch of 8 plants. Can anyone tell me good CFLs to buy and how many I'll need. Thanks

Hmm. I would use the HPS. Plants can only O.D. on heat, not lumen. So, give it to them full blast man. Spending cash on CFLs is a real waste IMO. Just my two cents. Take it or leave it.
