not trying to argue with you, i just don't want somebody passing along information that could have the potential to ruin somebodies prized smoking piece. becuz somebody told them it was ok to boil it.

Formula 420 glass cleaner
I've used this before and it works great, but I'm pretty sure it's just some alcohol, food coloring, scent, and salt.

I use 99% isopropyl alcohol (aka isopropanol) (I think it's like 2$ for 500ml), and some table salt for agitation.

Comes out spotless.

Yet again that is your opinion vs mine. That is hands down the quickest way to clean a piece. Once the water is boiling it takes 5 min. Please don't send another message back saying i'm wrong. Idc and I really don't think anyone else does. Stop dragging this on.

your right its an opinion based off factual scientific information relating to structural durability pertainning to glass. didn't say u were wrong either.

For the rest of my MP family out there, you know what to do.

in case you guys don't understand chemistry, acetone is a powerful solvent that completely disolves tar resins in no time flat....try it 1 time and you'll see why i push it ....i've been cleaning bongs and pipes for 13 years and there is no easier, faster way to do it

Jesus, here's the boiling point for just "everyday glass" not pipe glass i add, meaning not as dense. It's about 600 to more than 1000 deg C. SO in degrees Fahrenheit around 1112 degrees. So even half of that temperature to get it somewhat soft, 556 degrees Fahrenheit can not be reached by the boiling point of water which boils at 212, avg elevation.

THANK YOU.

not to butt in but after ANY type of glass has been tempered, extreme temps CAN cause stress because glass is not flexible.....if your peice is thick enough to contain color vains, 200f is more enough to cause expasion of the smaller inner vain and the result is usually micro fractures that ultimately compromise the integrity of the glass.....physics is a bitch but it's the law

Well either way, I have yet to break a piece. I now use screens anyways. Prevents a lot of build up of resin

yeah, i've boiled em' before and i havent ever broken one like that but it IS possible to weaken the peice in the process..

i can totally see where hot iso would work wonders, but there is no need to heat acetone. it just "strips" it right off the glass and leaves nothing but clean glass behind

plus the smell of iso reminds me of the doctors office...i hate getting shots!!!..lolol

Yeah im just going to stick to my bent paperclips. im a poor person, you can get a good buzz off of that stuff

its funny to sit here and read the arguments from you two. I also think its funny how hashblunt and blunted bob have nothing to say, but still thank sir smokes a lot for everything that he says! anyway, i think i'll give acetone a try. thanks guys, for the info AND the laughs!

haha some of you need to chillax.... :D

Personally I would not boil glass unless it was specifically made for it - like the type of glass jugs you can put boiling water in or put in microwave etc..

Anyway I just wanted to ask what do you use on plastic bongs? I have a really funky blue plastic bong, its not too bad yet, but will need a clean soon :)
