I called and left a message for the vet who is now in surgery today about I am is salivating. I don’t see it affecting him other than his wet face and now legs and chest. I’ve never seen a buffo frog in Florida, but we do have toads, which may be toxic to Ivan. He’s constantly hunting for creatures, so I’m not sure how to deal with this, if the vet says bring him in and I guess that’s what I want to do… saying that Ivan has been a challenge to my sanity is an understatement
Amazing how much an animal can consume your life.

I appreciate all the information but first and foremost There’s no way in the world I’m going to figure out what was in Ivan‘s mouth because I’ve got 10 acres that he roams. I washed his mouth out and dried his face but at this point I’m not sure what else to do. It seems to have stopped on its own, but I’m keeping an eye on him. This happened the other night and he was fine… I don’t believe he’s gotten to a bufo frog, but he has certainly got something that does not agree with him..: right now, he’s laying out with Dutch with a dry mouth…

I understand, I would hate to see anyone lose a beloved dog.
Best of luck, But maybe research best times to catch and find the Cane toad and see if you have them
Some places are loaded and they do not show themselves until after dark
Like snipe hunting but real.
Good Luck brother.
Be careful because natures neurotoxins can be the worst.

He probably tried to eat a frog. They taste really bad and would make him foam up. He will learn eventually which frogs not to chase. Big dogs are more durable than we give them credit for. My dogs in South Georgia all survived poision snake bites. Was not fun but after a lot of benedryl they were fine.

just brought the boys in, Ivan has a dry mouth...don't think it's the bufo frog but lizards he's been eating...as roster mentioned, thay only come out at night and he's drooling in the mornings when I let him out...this may sound hard and uncaring but I won't leash or keep Ivan penned up, he's a free spirit and is gonna be a country dog...he's #13 of my GSD boys, he's gotta learn to pick what he plays with...if it was a bufo, yeah, I would surely be at the vet but I don't believe that's the issue...lizard consumption exhibit the same symptoms...thanks for the leg work roster... 👍

A good point, as Oregon has a high suicide rate, though not as high as sunnier states like Arizona or for instance Oklahoma, where I grew up.

The point to remember there is that most of Oregon is arid and it is only the coast and valley that experience excessive rainfall. It is the arid parts of the state that may be responsible for us being only number 10 in the nation.

It doesn't affect me much anymore, but Grayfox grouses about the rain a lot, so it's clear it bothers her. She also takes vitamin D3 to offset the lack of sunshine.

What I like about the rain, is the vibrant green it produces, the freshly scrubbed air, and the snow at higher elevations keeps our reservoirs full of crystal clear snow melt for potable water.
If I lived in Ocra-homa, I'd probably off myself, too.
I am beginning to think that Ivan might become a casualty. More often than not. His mouth is salivating like a mastiff because he’s out eating toads and lizards. I’ve got a call into the vet, but I really don’t want Ivan to become a regular patron over there because of his antics…
Vlad, one of my male Borzois, had the same symptoms, except he laid on his side with his eyeballs rolling around in his head while frothing at the mouth. The Old Hen flipped out and was going to take him to the vet 'cause she thought he had rabies. We'd had an outbreak of toads in the back yard that spring. Seriously, I'd never seen that many in one place in my life. I'd seen him earlier picking up one and dropping it only to pick it up again. I told her to chill out and he'd be fine in a few hours. He was. Don't think he cared for the buzz 'cause he never tried to eat one again.

I have to watch my neighbor and his rat poison. I use it as well but I am careful. I think he thinks of is as non threatening to a dog. That s-hit will kill an animal or at the very leas make it very sick.

Anytime Brother (and I mean this) I know your world revolves around them dogs. As does mine.

Pute there are different kinds of rat bait poisons , one brand is way stronger than another and will kill a dog where the less poisonous will not .
But even when a rat or rodent eats the poison block bait and dies, it can then still be consumed by your cats or dogs and have a fatal result just from re-eating the poison.
I have rat bait boxes and use the lesser of two evil on the poison bait blocks.
The package will say if it can still kill after killing rats /.

Also your dog is a rather small pup and would not take make to make him very sick.

I for one would never ever take a chance saying this
I love my Dog as a child
