Hi,

Does anyone with a frame of reference with the great Thai bud of past decades know of some strains that bring that flavor and couch lock buzz that I think I remember with my rose colored glasses?

Recently I was wondering what ever happened to great Thai weed that was around so much decades ago. In the late 70's and through the mid 80's I would often be able to find some great Thai weed. We would see the rare "Thai Sticks" and some faux "Thai Stick" but most of the Thai weed was loose buds. Around 1979-81 I was getting some killer Thai bud for a couple years and it was very consistent. It was the first time I'd ever seen bud produced from clones and I didn't know what I was looking at!

I remember my dealer pal opening this garbage bag and it was about 1/3 full of these pot "spears"... all of it was footlong or more colas and I thought to myself "How the h*ll did they grow this stuff?" My buddy used to drive from where we lived in the Dakotas to Denver and I think someone was probably growing it there... Maybe if you grew a great Sativa like Kali Mist it could approximate what 80's Thai weed had going on. It's no mystery that many great Sativas today owe their lineage to Thai heritage. The sad thing is if you go to Amsterdam the Thai weed is the dirt weed on the menu and it's compressed and smuggled like commercial Columbian and it's nowhere near as good as what we used to get in the 80's. Maybe it's because of pot laws in Thailand being in the dark ages. Simple possession can land you in prison so there ya go... LE. Geez. Maybe LE has been so harsh that the Thai weed of old is a thing of the past?

Has anyone smoked some great Thai weed while in Thailand lately? From what I understand most tourists don't mess with it there because of the harsh penalties. I have a buddy who goes there often and he doesn't toke when there because of the LE threat. He's always telling me that it's paradise but I can't bring myself to go somewhere known for it's great pot knowing that it could be another "Midnight Express" prison sentence to go along with that bag of weed that you scored on the beach in Pattaya... :cop:

Paradise? I think not! And the 25 hours of riding on a plane to get there and not have anything to smoke at the end of the aerial gauntlet doesn't get me too excited either...

Peace!

hey dirty im going in september and have been before and believe me tourist thai stick or skunk is worse than imported grit weed imho its damp stinks bad smokes worse and does nuthin even for a liteweight like i am.

the thai stick you remember may have been original thai stik that used to be sprinkled with opiates that would explain the couch lock

There's a good chance that could be the case... I remember some weed being sold as 'opiated' as well.... Have a safe trip!

Thanks for the heads up on the landrace sativa F'n'G...

Happy Growing!

dirty, I have the same Thai stick memories. Good times! Mine came out of Montreal, I think. You could get anything back then, openly too at concerts in the city.

I had Thai Stick on 2 occasions once in philipines from a air force base long time ago. Once in USA a longer time ago original. Came tied to sticks. Tiny bamboo sticks.

Had the lightest silky white thread tied around it. I was sure if I was to smoke it or not :)

Hey, first time I ever saw it so no laughing.

You'd appreciate its uniqueness and aroma

Taste.. is the chocolate Thai

3 thin joints for 90 GI dollars!

I have a bunch of Chocolate Thai Super Skunk growing, can't wait to smoke it!:ccc:

I might get some seeds soon from a friend who lives there, but with my limited grow area it will be a while before I can try it. Next trial is the Nigerian sativa.

now growing casey jones (trainwreck x thai x ECSD). havent smoked it yet, but it grows like a pure sativa but flowers in 9 weeks, should be some bomb

To be honest, after living in Thailand for a long time, the last 2 years have seen 'Thai Weed' become a hard pressed male leaf with endless thin stalks and stems which have a very putrid stench to them, with mould and horrible taste.

I thought it was a bad batch at first but after 3 moves around the country, it seems that the standard has gone from that of an already pretty bad bushweed similar to 1980s Jamaican bush, to a completely unsmokable poisonous and horrible smelling piece of crap that even your 14 year old college kid wouldnt buy from your local ghetto no matter how desperate.

If Thai Stick was ever any good or if it was simply around before people knew what good weed was, is dubious.

LOL--Yes, Thai stick WAS good. I don't know how old you are, but back in the 70s, I had a relative that traveled world-wide and often brought back some killer Thai-stick--real Thai-stick. Back then it was relatively easy to get modest amounts of weed through customs. We were also smoking things like Acapulco Gold and Panama Red.

Last had true Thai sticks around 1980 and were £5 each and around a gram on a stick, at a rough guess.

There is just nothing like it that I've had apart from true Durban Poison which again came in stick form, a bit smaller and wrapped in brown paper about the size of a cigarette. That was in the late 70's and they were £2 each and only ever saw them once.

Both strains were psychedelic, stratospheric, insanely psychoactive sativa's that I have such fond memories of whilst knowing they'll probably never be seen again and you can't grow pot like this under lights, just no way.

And couch lock isn't what you get on Thai stick, more likely you'll plan to remodel the house or start Aardvark farming then wake up in the morning wondering about that secret of the universe revealed to you last night that you
jeeust can't quite remember.

I never had the pleasure of smoking any Thai Stick but have heard from an older friend that it was top notch.

You said it. The best UP buzz I ever had in my life....or I ever remember I have had in my life!

Sure is an old thread, wonder what ever happened to Sherwood Forest, he had a killer journal here a few years. Some really nice seasonal outdoor, if I remember correctly. A few more guys gone from MP that I see posting in this thread, dang. 2009 that was the year of the fires for me, and some kill Northernlights that the critics said was Blue Dream.

I wonder if DOS ever found his grail?

Goddess, very funny, I had a worldwide traveler in my life back then (70's) that always came to town with the best thai stick I ever had! I wish I still had the African trading beads he gave me. The Thai sticks were bundled in a small bunch of sticks bout seven inches long. Then a year or so later, he brought home the Budda sticks, bigger but now quite as good.

some of the sticks in late 70's, early 80's had white substance on it. found out it was the left-over wash, from making heroin....still had some opiates in it, i'm sure....peace

last real-deal Thai I had was back in '83 . . . did up a pinner with a couple friends one night, then walked outside for some fresh air . . . looked up and there were huge green/purple halos around the street lamps . . . not too speedy or paranoid, but clear, alert, relaxing and lovin life kinda buzz

wht supposedly was opium treated weed tasted like a bar of soap . . . coulda been embalming fluid for all I know, it got ya pretty looped
