I would let more of my beautiful leaves stay if I didn’t overcrowd so bad. I still hate removing them but I have to use every trick in the book to adjust to my decision to overcrowd.

I’m impressed that you’re able to run four beautiful plants in the 2x4. I’m pondering adding a plant for my next grow and trying 3 five gallon pots. My bonsai trees don’t take up much room, and there’s a lot of wasted space under my grow lights. Your grow looks awesome SubmarineGirl!

Thank you Loolagigi2! I’m still “in training” myself and most of this is just an excuse for me to screw around in the garden for countless hours. I’m still not sure that this is the best technique for me….time will tell.

Thanks for the kind words.
Much deserved.

Another exciting day in the garden…but this time it’s true.

I pick up new tips from grow journals, and seeing @SubmarineGirl ‘s journal inspired me to move all three plants under the one light in the 2x4. I’ve been too nervous about filling tents ever since my budrot incident several years ago. (An ignored and overcrowded tent, poor ventilation, no environmental controls, no defoliation and poor air movement all taught me a valuable lesson when I first started).

Check out all of the wasted canopy space in this “before and after”.

I didn’t realize how open and empty my canopy was until I saw yours. Thanks for sharing your journal…it motivated me to improve my garden.

That opens up a 2x2 for my first autoflower experiment. Carty makes them look so good, so I’ll be taking on a Tahoe OG Kush Auto to see if I have any success with it. I know what I’ll be studying this week…..autoflowers.

Autoflower GroTech Grobucket has been assembled and filled…..ready for the seedling to pop.

That's one pricey camera! I got careless last weekend and surfed Amazon after dinner with two martinis. Ended up ordering an ALTI 100. It's way more than I would have spent sober, but I have no regrets so far. Just have to decide where to put it...

Wow….I just looked it up too. Over $800 just for the camera to get started…..no thanks. Your Alti looks like a fun tool CrashMagnet. Looking forward to seeing the time lapses.

Yesterday and today I noticed very few lower leaves that look like nutrient burn. I was suspicious that this wick watering system might result in too many salts at the rootball. I ran roughly 7 gallons of liquid through each plant, including 4.5 gallons with Florakleen to help dissolve the salts. Runoff ppm measured as high as 4,000 initially, 2700 mid flush, and 1800 by the end of the semi-flush. Hope the reduction in ppm prevents any further damage. Fed 1200 ppm nutrients ph’d to 6.5 for final 2.5 gallons of the flush.

So…I ran the wick system for 6 weeks with no flush and no runoff before seeing any symptoms. I should be able to finish this grow with no more flushes. Added extra CalMag too just in case.

Godfather looks healthier after yesterdays semi flush.

Your plants look nice tdub remember if they are photos when you have more plants in the tent, you’re gonna have to defoliate really well to make room for all those buds to grow. Also managing your heat and humidity is really important to prevent another bud rot incident like you had in the past. I’ve never got bud rot inside the tent as of yet but do spend a lot of time pulling leaves off during the veg and flower stages to make sure. You can still fill your canopy with one or two plants. I try to get the screen filled prior to turning on to 12/12. The auto tent was way different. I had 5 plants in a 2x4 with no issues and plenty of room to grow and beautiful too I may add. I defoliated very little in that tent after one topping.

Thanks SubmarineGirl. You’re right, I’ll need to defoliate more than I’m comfortable with to use this 2x4 space for three photo plants. I think I’m going to stick with two photo periods in this space in the future….maybe in a SCROG. After watching gmo’s grow I’m questioning whether I want to defoliate aggressively at all.

I realized that I’m not doing this to maximize my grow space but rather to get a harvest that I’m proud of. I moved the Purple Ghost Candy back into the 2x2 tent. Plenty of air movement, especially with the tower fan added to the tent.

Thanks again for pointing out the risks….that was a dumb decision on my part. ✌️

I don’t think it was a dumb decision so don’t say that. It will give you some experience with your next grow. A scrogg is the way to go to get the plants spread out. I’m pretty sure GMO uses one and although his plant looks thick, I’m sure he does some defoliating as things get in the way. He has beautiful grows for sure I always love watching them too.

It’s been 5 days of flowering, so time for a quick photo update. Plants are getting frosty as we close out week 4 of 12/22 on the Godfather OG and LA Peyote Kush. I moved plants around again between tents, but all plants have plenty of space and ideal lighting levels according to the Photone app. Flushing the pots stopped the leaf damage that looked like nutrient burn. I also dilute the feed to 1200 ppm for now too.

LA Peytote Kush - I hope she’s as potent as she is pretty. The quadline training resulted in a bushy but beautiful plant. Here’s a top down view, front view, and bud view. She has a lot of bud sites.

Godfather OG
This one stretched more and I’m excited to see her COLAs. If I stand any chance at competing for “bud of the month”, it will likely be off this plant.

Finally, the wild and leafy Purple Ghost Candy. Big hopes for smoking this one based on reviews. The Buds seem small and she is leafy, but she is slowly stacking. This won’t be pretty, but she’s healthy.

The Lucas formula using GH Flora Series continues to impress me with its simplicity and plant health. 5-6 more weeks to harvest, so it’s almost time to plant some new seedlings in the veg tent.

Next update in a week or so unless my plants take a turn for the worse…..have a great weekend.

I’ve been a little slow on updating my grow….and Ive been ignoring the tent a little more than I should. I’m attempting to pick up a new hobby (guitar) and it’s occupying most of my time.

Here is a quick weekly update to the tent. The only noteworthy changes are the buds bulking up and some extra frosty goodness showing up. With the exception of a small potassium deficiency on the Purple Ghost Candy, everything else has gone smoothly with these watering bases. It sure makes watering easy. The plants are pulling all water and nutrients through the wicks up from the bases…..I am not doing any traditional watering from the top of the soil. I will use these again….I give them 5 out of 5 stars for effectiveness.

Godfather OG has the most frost….here she is at 6 weeks since flip.

LA Peyote Kush…the prettiest plant in the tent. Hope she smokes well too.

And finally, the Purple Ghost Candy who is really starting to bulk up now. She’s at week 7 since flip….and she is a really a 12 week strain based on my reading.

Ultimate Guitar Tabs is an excellent app to use for any level of guitar player. I am a lousy guitar player but I find UG to be very helpful with their chord diagrams and use it when I hear a song I like to see what chord progressions to use. Also, Shane Simpson has a great series of video instruction on YouTube.

Thanks OldFogey! At your recommendation, I downloaded Ultimate Guitar trial to study chords for the past hour and I think it’s the best iPad app that I’ve used so far in my tests. I may have to sign on for a year after the trial expires. Thank you for the tip! I’ve already signed up for video instruction through a site called “guitar tricks”. I don’t know how to read music or play any instruments, so this is going to take a long time.

Is it a yearly subscription now? I think it cost me $6 when I did the paid thing. Maybe they are charging me. I need to pay closer attention. This guy Marty Schwartz has pretty good tutorials on songs. I am a hack on guitar but I like to try. I don’t care to be a virtuoso. I just like learning to play songs I like to listen to and Shane Simpson and Marty Schwartz both have musical tastes I Venn diagram with.
