Hello MP forum!
It’s been a year since I’ve grown and I haven’t been around much. I see some familiar names still posting, so I decided to come back and post my grow here. My last grow turned into a disaster. I used Infrared and Ultraviolet lighting too much which resulted in seeded feminized stressed plants. This time I plan to stick to the basics. I’m placing several documents here in the first post so that I can find the reference material easily. One of the challenges of growing only once per year is that I need to re-learn a lot or rely on reference material often.

I’ve had a lot of success with bottom-feeding the AC Infinity self-feeding bases, so this time I’m going to grow with the new Vivosun self-feeding bases. They have a few additional features that are improvements to the ACI model (easy access to reservoir, 30% more volume). These keep the bottom 1/3 of the fiber pots damp without being too wet.

Germination
My plants are over two weeks since popping the soil. I planted 5 seeds and all five popped quickly. I soaked in reverse osmosis water and seaweed extract for 24 hours before planting in soil. After one week, I transplanted the seedlings to their final containers.

Medium:
Hydrated and rinsed coco coir (70%) and a mix of small and large perlite (30%).

Nutrients and additives:
GH Flora series Micro, Bloom and Grow for NPK.
Maxicrop Seaweed extract for all of the amazing benefits (30ml/g)

IMG_0795.jpeg

GH Armor Si silica supplement for heat tolerance and strength, hydrogen peroxide 3% (10ml/g), Botanicare Hydroguard (not sure this is needed but I own it), Cal Mag to make up for low levels in my reverse osmosis water.

Water:
2:1 ratio of tap water (treated to remove chloramines) and reverse osmosis water.

Tent:
2x4x8 with a SCROG net ready to go

Light:
Antique (outdated technology) 320 watt Timber 3VL and four 11” AC Infinity LED light bars (one in each corner of the tent) for an extra 30 watts.
Watts per square foot: 40w excluding light bars / 44 watts including Light bars
16” above the plants and using a dimmer to target a specific Daily Light Integral of 17-20 at this age. I use the Photone app on my phone.
IMG_1919.pngIMG_1956.png

Genetics: Seedsman Durban Poison (my first time growing this strain). Here they are at 2+ weeks. Only 3-4 nodes on these girls.

Ideal Climate:
I will be using these charts to target an ideal Vapor Pressure Deficit around 1.0 in veg and 1.1 in flower. I have the new AC Infinity grow tent heater on order to achieve these temps in my cold basement this winter. My small space heater bit the dust. I am using the AC Infinity Controller to target a stable VPD.

Fingers crossed it all works out…..but so far this grow is going well. I’ll try to update regularly.

Welcome back! Love seeing everyone's grows. My last harvest was seeded too but not as bad as it could have been. I am still picking out seeds.

Welcome back! So good to see ya active again. Back with the self feeders. Awesome.
T Dub! I was just thinking about you. Glad to see you back.

Thank you! It feels good to be back in the tent. Plus I’ll have more indoor time in winter to dedicate to growing and journaling the grow.

Exciting day today…..
I’ll be tearing apart the tent to re-run the wires to my Controller. I plan to add a replacement heater, hook up my humidifier, and move the AC Infinity Controller to a better location. I discovered a new type of heater that is built specifically for safe use in grow tents. I have been looking for something like this for years. I grow in a cold basement in winter, so extra heat is welcome. Just sharing in case others aren’t aware of this new item.

This heater will reportedly raise the tent temp by up to 15 degrees. It can be programmed to run alone or used with the AC Infinity Controller 69. You can set a VPD level and it will maintain your grow at a perfect VPD. It’s also beneficial in that it does not take up tent space. On sale for $99, which was more than a typical space heater but still seems reasonable.

Also a Quick Look at the plants. Some yellowing in the leaves…..feel like they need more nitrogen. I expect my new nutrient solution to solve this, but ill also add foliar feeding at lights out to deliver nutrients.

Fingers crossed that this heater solves my issue.

Ya still puffing on that monster Godfather plant? That was a beast..lol
Hey Greenmobster,
Funny you brought that up….I’m still smoking that one this week since I found two half-filled jars in my stash. Thats a really nice smoke and that was one of my best grows.

I’ve been reading a few posts and I see you run Pro mix and Jacks? Is there a specific type of Pro mix you recommend? Do you mix perlite into your Pro mix? I’m considering switching from coco coir to ProMix and it looks like you grow some great plants.

Edit: adding photo of Godfather…..she was a great plant

Thanks man, I try.

Straight outta the bag is how I use it. I use the HP promix. It's already loaded with perilite so I don't see any need to add more. The roots love the stuff. Jacks, calcium nitrate, and Epsom. Real similar to the MasterBlend series schedule. Base, calnit, Epsom. Great combo.

It should do very good with this wick based.

That's a cool little device. Perfect for a basement.

Thanks!!! That’s definitely going to be my next medium. Not only is it easier than hydrating and buffering coco coir, but it should be readily available at my hardware store. Appreciate the guidance!!

Thank you Oscarzuma! I was wondering about the differences between their mixes. I’ll check my local Home Depot and Lowe’s to see what they each carry.
Walmarts carry it here but its always the first to go. I always see palettes of it but wont have money then when I get paid its sold out

Last night I upgraded the AC Infinity controller to their model that allows me to control 8 pieces of equipment. That allowed me to add a humidifier, heater and side LED lamps to the controller. Overall, it maintained a stable growing environment and a much warmer evening for my garden than my basement can provide. I’m still fine-tuning my setpoints to achieve an ideal Vapor Pressure Deficit (vpd).

Daytime: Heater set to 78, Humidity set to 68%, Target VPD 1.05
Nighttime: Heater set to 73, Humidity set to 63%, Target VPD 1.02

Here is a short review of the settings and reports available using this master controller. The first screen shows you what is turned on/off and the speed at which each device is running (on a scale 1-10). Port 3 is still open……I’m trying to decide whether to add my old UV/IR light bars that destroyed my last grow. If I do add UV/IR, I will use it less frequently and for shorter durations….ready to start researching the best use of IR and UV now.

Heater and humidifier are located outside the tent (left side) and they pump warm air and humidity through hoses into the tent.

Looks like a nice set up

Thanks MariJan. It’s a small tent (2x4) and an accumulation of many parts and accessories over the years. I also like to experiment and fiddle around with it constantly (too often to be real).
Never ending tweeks always keeps the grow getting better and better.
