I checked the pH of my RO water before watering. The pH was surprisingly high, about 8.5. I double checked the accuracy of my meter against the 7.01 buffer solution; it was right on. I double checked the pH of the water, and it was about 8.5. I add a drop of vinegar and mix well. I check the pH again and it has gone down to about 7.8 or so. However, it starts out at about 7.8 and gradually continues to drop over a long period of time, for about 10 minutes. The pH never seems to really stabalize.

Has anyone ever experienced a gradual drop in the pH of RO water while trying to measure it? Does anyone know why this happens, and how to deal with it? Perhaps CO2 and water react forming carbonic acid, however, that doesn't really explain it, because the pH of the water will remain steady at 8.5 if I add no vinegar.

I suppose it has something to do with the source water, mine goes in at ph =6.65 and comes out ph=6.00 :hubba:

Anyone else? Can anyone explain that?
