Alcohols and water are both polar and mix at any ratios.

The azeotropic mixture of water and ethanol at atmospheric pressure is about 95%. It is readily available as 190 proof or as 200 proof reagent grade.

The azeotropic mixture of water and Isopropyl at atmospheric pressure is about 87.9%. It is readily available in 91 and 99 percent mixtures. I infer that the 91% grades are azeotropic and done under vacuum.
need a nap after that explanation Brother..:)

Thanks for that!

GrayWolf why can you clean remotes and stuff in alcohol safely, but not water?
For starters, to use water, the contamination must be water soluble, and greases and oils are not.

For another, the dielectric constant (polarity) of water is 80.1, while Isopropyl is only around 17.9 and Ethanol 24.5. On the dielectric constant scale, anything above 15 is considered polar, and Isopropyl barely is. Check the column headed Epsilon for dielectric constants.

Isopropyl is widely used to clean circuit boards.

Thanks. I know it sure cleans my earbuds and remotes good. And it doesnt hurt the speakers on my earbuds at all.
