my heart goes out to all the poor folks who don’t have ac

heat kills
It really does .For most folks who are in a heat area have central ac.
You need a hell of a generator to run that and fuel to boot . If you can reduce down to a small ac unit in one room till electric gets back it helps.

The cheapest way to go is to put a split system in your living room, or get one of those mobile AC units and put it by a window.

Me to bro. Mine i had to have recharged. I found a small leak and turned off the AC. Dryed and cleaned that area really well and used JB WELD. No more leak and the AC is cold as hell.
You most likely should get a small recharge if that leak was not found right away.
I had a small hold in one of my lines and it leaked out in a day.

I say this because the braze would cost more than JB weld
But refilling the AC unit with 22 lbs of coolant will cost hundreds of dollars.
You still can have the system Vac down and store the coolant while they fix the spot with a good seal then fill back up with your old gas.

Keep an eye on it over the years JB weld is known to dry out a bit and shrink.
Would have been better to have the HVAC Mechanic just braze the hold closed .
The guy that recharged it was a good friend and he didn't have the stuff to fix it with him at the time. He did it as a favor late in the afternoon because we had no air.

First time I wired one was over 30 years ago for a Chinese restaurant .
I just worked on a bathroom where the home owner had five zones put in . One condenser (BIG ONE ) fed three air handlers inside and a second condenser feeding 2 air handlers on the other side of the house. 5 zones 2 condensors installed with electric 18.5 K
also I think 2 zones may have aux heat in them ....
