Is there a way to sex marijuana plants before flowering?

I've always had a problem with sexing plants but my question is, Is there a way to sex the plants before flowering? and If so can someone please explain it to me?

Most plants will show preflowers while still in veg. This usually doesn't happen until the plants are 4-8 weeks old. I don't think that I have ever had a plant show at 4 weeks though others say they have. It generally takes mine 8 weeks. You generally get alternating nodes prior to the plant showing sex.
