I've done it for years. The Turkey taste great if you know what your doing and you inject it with some good spices.
3 hrs is way to long for a Turkey.šŸ˜³
3 to 4 minutes per pound.
I'm pretty sure that Turkey didn't way 45 lbs cleaned and ready to cook.šŸ˜‹
If the turkey you purchased at the store weighs 16-24 pounds, then it's a tom, if it weighs 8 to 16 pounds, then it's a hen.
Most the Turkeys we deep fry are about 12 to 15 lbs. Takes under an hour. He burned the fk out of the Turkey you ate.šŸ˜
Imagine the size of the pot of oil for a 24# bird, how much free board would be required and how long it would take to get the insides up to 165F in 375F oil.
 
After we got the pot of oil up to 375F at my son's, besides the turkey, we did pork chops and alligator afterwards. I've haven't used ours here since the last time my daughter and grandkids visited. Hard to justify the cost that much oil unless you use it before it goes rancid or have a good place to store it cold.

We actually had two boiler setups, but I used one of the pots to hold the ice-water for a still, so have two burners and one pot. We use ours more for boils than fries. Like a crawfish boil lakeside straight from the traps.
 
Me and my Brother in law will be deep frying 7 Turkey's and 4 chickens while we watch football and drink cold beer.
We do this almost every year. We cook Turkeys for other families. They drop by and pick them up.

Thats very nice of you. My uncle used to deep fry a turkey. It was very good. It was my first and only one I have had.

Wife wonā€™t be back until late Thanksgiving so I believe I will go traditional Chinese for dinner

General Tsoā€™s chicken with a large bowl of hot and sour soup should do it
Chinese sounds really goodā€¦..but then again Iā€™m the host of our family Thanksgiving dinner and I donā€™t even like turkey and the sides.

Tomorrow Iā€™ll be introducing my family to ā€œsous-vide Turkey breastā€. A simple 145 degree water bath for three hours.

As far as thanksgiving, Iā€™m just thankful the tent isnā€™t stinking up the house yet. Haha.
 
HEY let me share something helpful you may already be doing

We do a spiral ham at Christmas then freeze the remaining ham in slices.

When we freeze the spiral slices we separate them on a baking sheet then when frozen we dump them in a gallon freezer bag and freeze another tray. This way the slices never stick together in the bag making it super easy to defrost for sandwiches.

Works with any meat
