So I'm approaching the big 'flush date' soon..

I was wondering if I could hear some opinions about flushing with tapwater. :D

My concern is the chlorine in the water.

To date, I've had the tapwater sit in open jugs for 24-72 hrs before being water with. With flushing requiring 3 times the ammount of soil space (many many jugs).. I'm hoping I can get by with using tapwater straight from the tap.

Thanks :)

What I've been doing is using a Britta Filter (like the one for drinking water to filter the water before I give it to the plants. Your operation may be to big for this, but it solves all your tap water problems. I just put it in 1 gallon jug containers then dump it on the plant

It's funny you mention the Britta filter.. because that's what I was using to water my plants.. initially.

The flow rate on those are so slow, it became too much of a pain in the neck to water. I only have 3 small plants (not counting my army of miniclones), but they're downing a liter every 2-3 days right now. That's a lot of time standing around at the sink. :p

I also stopped using filters because I noticed the ppm is the SAME as normal tapwater. :confused2:

I want to avoid using filters at all.. it's too high cost for what it's worth.

I'm thinking that I might just fill a big Rubbermaid reservoir with water, then use the jugs to transfer the water.

wow I'm surprised the ppm is the same, I would think with all the particles taken out of the water it would go down dramatically. hu...

As far as the rubbermaid, That sounds like it would be a good idea. You can condition the water (Ph, nutrients, etc) in the individual containers or in the gallon jugs. You might want to think about getting one of those aquarium bubble things for the big thing to keep the water oxygenated.

As far as straight tap water, I would think that the chlorine would hurt the plant and kinda to the opposite of what your trying to do??

You're probably right about hurting the plant.. I don't really know what chlorine would do.. but unless someone can give me a solid "it won't make a difference for the flush".. then I'm not going to risk it.

I've never worried about oxygenating the water.. I always give the jugs a few mighty shakes before I pour anyways, I figure that's plenty enough oxygenation. :D

Oh, and I've also noticed that the PPM for bottled water is about the same as tapwater (+ or - 10 ppm). I wish I could prove to some people I know (that buy bottled water) that they should just get a Britta if it's only the taste that bothers them. But then I would have to come up with some ridiculous excuse as to why I own a PPM pen

it'll work........ but the chlorine isn't plant friendly..... so it could make worse results then u'd want..... i'd let the water sit for 24 hours first.... (try filling up the bathtub if u run outta waterholding space)
