Direct Sunlight

I'm about to start an outdoor grow. Obviously, my plants will be in semi-shaded areas since i don't want them right out in the open. Do MJ plants like totally require direct sunlight? Or can it have like partial direct sunlight for most of the day? How picky are these plants?

the more hours of direct light, the better, but they will do fine with only a few.

i was actually just reading that they will grow with as little as 3 or 4 hours of light a day. i always thought it had to be 12 or 14 hours or something. thanks man
