who cuts off part of the plant to produce bigger top yeild , do people do this

never heard of that before.but, maybe by cutting lower branches this will stimulate the higher ones to sprout? but "I" wouldn`t.
anyone else??:smoke1: :stoned:

I dont really know but i cut a **** load of them because my plant had mg deficent and then nut burn the only thing i have heard is that when your plant have bad leaf cut them off because the plant waste energy trying to keep alive the leaf

"I" have allways heard that you should never cut off any leaves dying or not.the plant will shed the "bad" leaves by itself, just as it would in the wild.:cool:no need for any interfearance.

This is all up to personal preference. If you cut off your lower branches then yes, your plant will devote the energy previously dedicated to the lower brances to the remaining branches. I have done it before, with good results, however, you're best bet is LST.

LST is the art of taking a piece of string, and tieing it to the top of your plant, slowly bending it over time. If you do this make sure you do not bend it too quickly or you will snap the main stem and risk hindering the overall growth or possibly killing the plant.

The idea of LST is to bend over the plant so that it exposes the other growth shoots to more light, thus creating potentially 4-12 main growth shoots rather than just one. The thing to remember is that if you do use LST properly, the plants will become very bushy, and you must have the space the maintain the plants or you will run into problems.

If you have any more questions on LST, ask away.

what age do you begin LST`ing at?:bong: :48:

As soon as there are other growth shoots you would like to promote.

It's all according to personnal choice. I like to cut off the lower branches with lil or no substantial growth off so my main buds will get bigger. I also don't like alot of bud sites just a few with fat buds.

Yes, I do. But not always, and not for the same reason you mentioned. I grow a SOG style from seed, and sometimes I clear lower branches to aid ventilation. That is the only reason I ever remove anything except to harvest, top, or clone.

2 cents and all.

I do it all the time. Infact I rely on the lower growth between days 25 to 40 for some personal smoke..not the best, but way better than no smoke..lol

I'M IN THE MIDDLE OF AN EXPERIMENT!!I only undercut 3 of my 6 plants. I will take pictures, measure and weigh the buds to see if there is any difference. So far there seems to be none. I started this experiment last month after an indepth conversation about under cutting.

I trim as well. Usually early in flowering in order to promote upper growth for the bud sites. For example, I just trimmed most of the bottom branches on my plants for two main reasons. One, to increase the ventilation and two, to help the plants focus their energy on making the upper buds and not struggling with the lower ones. However, it depends on the plant and the strain....i have bushy monsters and the lower branches get very little light, therefore trimming is a good idea. But if you have lengthy plants with little undergrowth I would keep the lower budsites to have something to smoke or to do a little LST to get those suckers bigger. It depends.

well im f4 weeks into flowering , 2 of my planst are doing pretty good, my 3rd one is to , but i notice the the 3rd , and the smalles plnat of the 3 , the buds on it are airy , not as dence as the other 2 , it just looks like all hair pretty much , what could this be from ,, there under a 400watt lamp , so i dont think its a light broblem reall y but i dunno

Sounds to me like you may just have a sativa-dominant pheno...they can take longer to start and finish (but in my opinion worth it:aok:).

She have thinner leaves too? How about a pic?

yes here she is

That's a great lookin grow. Keep up the good work!

Kinda hard to see a leaf really well...but that first pic is more of a sativa style bud structure. Indica flowers are usually more 'cone' shaped.

See how her leaves are fatter towards the stem coming to a narrower point?...and how the others are more the same width from stem to tip?;)

She may take an extra week or 2...but you may like the high better.

You might also notice after cure, that while sativa flowers seem smaller...they lose alot less size after drying. Gently squeeze the 2...you'll see what I mean (less bracts, more pistils or closer together).

Sativas typically form this style bud structure as a natural resistance to mold, heat, pests, etc...due to being a more equatorial plant.

Looking great too :aok: keep giving them love  and they will return the favor.:smoke1:
