I am sure most people don’t understand what “crab apples” are so let me explain. You have to plant a thousand apple trees from seed to find a viable apple strain which is you you only see like 8 or 10 strains for sale in a supermarket. The winning strains are all clones from the original.

I believe cannabis is the same which is why clones produce the best overall. People plant 50-100 seeds of a specific cannabis strain to find “the one”

So every seed planted the best you can hope for is to max the genetics of that seed which probably will not be like the 1 in 100

Does this sound about right?

I am so on the same page with you.
Coming from a breeder of hunting dogs, beagles and coonhounds, I have often wondered why you can breed a certain male to a certain female and get an outstanding litter of pups, yet you can breed the same male to the same female a year later and get a litter of duds.
Also, like cannabis, an accidental breeding occurs, and you get a whole litter full of world beaters.
How can someone breed top genetics for years, yet never find a C99, Sour Diesel, or a Chem 91, which were all accidental?
Like Ole’ Forest said, seeds are like a box of chocolate, you never know what you are gonna get.

That my friend id why I am growing out all of my accidental seeds. All the strains I grew for the spring/summer photo grows were great. So when C99 got the entire crop, I was kind of happy. The sour vengeance was a very hearty plant handled pests, wind, monsoon rains, even pea sized hale a few times. She was a trooper. The weed is awesome. I hope her babies got her vigor and sll the special stuff from both parents.

That was pretty good smoke.
As I have said, and I understand the popular outlook on it, this plant and a Tremolo (MimosaxTriple Lemon) hermed hard on me. I kept the seeds, and popped one, just one, a while back.

Which is this plant right here.
As I sit here, watching for deer, I am really smoking this, for the first time.
This is definitely better than the parent plant.
A lot better.
Actually, in the length of time it took me to type this, I am noticeably higher.
I may have to rethink my top 4.

I look at new seed as absolute new life. Ya just dunno what your gonna get. Genetics can get weird or sometimes blow your mind. Every seed is a individual just like us.

I think clones out produce seed because a clone, once rooted, is a fully mature plant ready to go. I often rerun a exceptional plant found in a seed run. I've been playing with air layering lately. So I'm rooting plants while they flower. Harvest the clones at the end. Somethin like that..lol Trying 1 so far. Damn I'm high.

I prefer seed. I watched a company grow 50 and they picked the best to be a mother plant and just supply clones until they no longer grow that strain. It just produced the best of the 50. As a single seed guy I have no idea which of the “50” I am going to get but they are all awesome for me so do I care. Not at all

Just pointing it out

I fail to believe that very many of the seed company/breeders are doing the back crossing or that they cube them. I could be wrong again but... Requires time, effort and a small bit of brain power. Not a lot. Just seems every time you turn around there is a new strain name out there. The people that run B.Grim are supposed to have a couple times now but who knows. I have done more than one rant about how 5 seeds that came out of the exact same pack, grown in the exact same set up, system, same everything, can turn out being so much different. (Pretty sure one was from BG - Ethos was #2) I used to run clones years ago. I have become spoiled by the ease of growing fem seeds, and by now, I should take the time to look into finding that one strain to keep alive that suits me. Almost every cabinet in the mud room, even in the crawl space in the basement there are jars all over the place. I could wait 2 years before I needed to run again. I just pretty much keep to myself now anyways. Every now and then I like showing off with my friends but we rarely get out much anymore. Always something going on. My grow space is way to small or I would volunteer. We need someone to BACKcross a female with a male donated from here and name it "Marijuana Passion" haha. Like when crowder has his table out at the colleges - Prove me wrong, I'm totally open for that. Start by picking the best male, harvest the pollen. Seed the girl you like. Continue to seed it's best daughter, then her best daughter, then on and on daughter, daughter, daughter until what is it? 9 or 10 times? Even doing it that way, I would think your talking about a year or 2 overall, to get the mature seeds to finish so you could to go from one to the next. 9 times for seeds to mature in a bud. That has got to take 6 weeks or more per run to get them done. 6 weeks nine times. 54 weeks at a minimum and that is not figuring any veg time per plant at all. I bet @Carty could tell you how long it should take and he probably has done it before, for sure. Then you have an original strain? Is that some 1980's urban myth? I probably need to smoke another one and figure out something for the evening meal. WORDS - haha Stonehead.
