Hey all hope your well. I have a few ladies growing in my grow room and really want to try cloning. I bought some rooting powder, and plan on putting them straight to soil with a dome. Here’s my question; I know clones don’t need a lot of light however they need a stable temperature. My grow room would be an idea place to put them as the temperature stays about 75. However I’m worried about there being too much light. Any suggestions how I could put them in my grow room but minimize the light issue? Hope I explained that the way I wanted lol

This may be dumb, but I even thought about putting a white sheet over the dome to cut back on the amount of light. Any thoughts?

That would defuse the light.... most lights I have seen have a control to turn up or down. I have never had much luck with the dome for clones. Had better luck just putting them in water and change it every 3 days.

Really? What kind of lighting do you put them in?
I cut my clones dip them in a cloning jell then put them in a glass of water. The glass is covered with some type of opaque tape so light will not get in to the roots. I use tap water that I have let sit out 24 hours to let the chlorine evaporate. I place them under a T5 light about 4 inches from the light. I have also used a LED Light on veg settings. I change the water every three days. Have some right now been in water just 8 days and one has roots now.

My clones were always in my vegg room with HoT5s. Never had a problem with the light on my clones.

I put my cloned under a small simple CFL. And the light is high up off them. I have found that less light will get quicker roots.

Yeah my clones were not close to the T5 lights either.

Wow so you just put them in your grow room and had no issues? I have 3 king 1500 led lights in a 5x9 room. I appreciate all your all’s help!

I made a cheap bubble cloner (bottom left of 1st pic) I just keep in my veg tent as well. I dont believe light has been an issue - I've only lost 2 clones so far. The 2 I lost were when I removed the "dome" and tried a new method (5th pic), they dried up (already fragile). So, now I keep a dome on until they root and get moved into buckets.

Yes. I put them over out of the way where they are getting light and staying warm. Never had an issue.

Caw,,i have made lots of bubblers. Even made them out of coffee containers.:D

My clone box literally has a white running singlet draped over it right now lol. A single layer of white paper towels has worked for me in the past too, or a white pillowcase ripped to a single layer.
I leave the shade on for the first week or so, then remove it. If they wilt, put it back on. It's kinda like acclimating them to less humidity except it's light levels.
Good hack if the nice warm spot in your room also happens to be too near the Big Light!

Oh also... grab a bottle of dip n grow. It's cheap and works like magic and the technology is like 90 years old lol. Indole 3-butyric acid. Like unicorn spit!

Wow you guys have helped me a lot along with my best buddy Glowman! Here’s some pics of what I did. First time trying and I incorporated what you all told me. Giving it just room light right now. Tomorrow it will get light sunlight through the windows. My soil was moist and I dipped them in rooting powder. Gonna spray the dome before I go to bed! Here’s crossing my fingers!!

It looks close, but if I remember correctly, you should leave AT LEAST 60% of plant/leaf growth when cloning.

And definitely spray the dome asap. It will keep the humidity up.

Not long ago someone asked a question about using PHd water when spraying/foliar feeding. My first set of clones I did just that, and added VERY light nutes. My second set I just used straight tap water with not as great results. So, I now used non-nute, PHd water in a spray bottle and only spray the dome.

Thanks man! Gonna spray them right now!

It looks as though a couple of those cups have nothing but a leaf stuck in soil...? Never heard of a one being grown that way. Maybe I'm about to learn something new here. They say you can't teach an old dog new tricks tho. Hmm.

Good luck

Ha ha yes a couple are leaves... one of my newbie mistakes.

Let us know if they root- some plants can root from a petiole but no plant develops. Wrong combination of cell types and hormones in that tissue. But I'm still curious to see if you get roots.
Caw has your back on this one. Good advice.
