Hello all! I am new to growing as I have just recently got my medical card & now that I am legal, would like to grow my own medicine! I have a place picked out in a outbuilding that will be 4' deep X 7.5' wide X 6' tall. I understand that I really should use a 1000w HPS light, but my consern is power. I have no power to this building & it it close to a 200' run to the house. From what I have seen CFL's result in skimpy plants. Does anybody have any sugestions on how you would light this room?

Get female cuttings when its time to plant outside in Montana, do it. Your legal. Grow trees.

I agree, if you don't have power out there, your gonna have a hard time powering any sort of light. Maybe invest in materials to do a partial lean-to greenhouse attatched to that out building. Maybe something that you can open up in the heat of summer, or move your plants to your garden in the summer. You may want to hide it between corn rows or sunflowers, just because your legal doesn't mean the theives won't be looking to get something for nothing.

Or if you got some coin. Install solar panels. The Feds give you a rebate on it too. I would love to go that route one day. Think I ran the math and for my power needed, it would be about 5k, less rebate.

is it several blocks away or just a piece of land whic you own in between the house and the growspace? im asking to make sure that you cant run a wire cable from house. if this cant be done you need to either hook this place up with the electric company or consider outdoor grow, well or grow in your house!

I'd suggest hiring an electrical contractor to properly wire that building with a couple of 20 amp circuits. It can't be much more complicated than having a new garage wired for electricity.

Good Luck!

Get some wire run out there. Put up a 60 amp circuit box. Cut your room into a 3/4 flower room with a 1000 watt light and a 1/4 veg room with some t-5's and go at it. You will also need fans for ventilation and fans to create air movement within your rooms. Also will need pumps depending on the type of grow you figure on doing.

Thanks for the replys! This outbuilding is on my land about 150 - 200' from the house. I just was not sure how major it would be to run electricity out their. Right now, I have a little power to it using an extention cord made out of romax. Local grow shop sugested using a 8bank t-5.

Get some wire made for outdoors and bury it. The wire is a bit pricey but is a lot safer then indoor romax. And grow on

:yeahthat: and make sure it can carry big loads, it will be a thick wire and 200' would cost some

If you have access to a Ziggy's they can help you figure out how to get power there the most economical and safe way.

However, the first and most important consideration is figuring out how much power you have available at your breaker/fuse box. If you have a 200 amp panel and electric heat, then you're not going to be able to draw much off. On the other hand if you have a 200 amp panel with gas heat, gas water heater, gas dryer and gas range, then you should have a lot of available power.

I would suggest that you get a good electrician out there to evaluate your present service to see how much unused capability you now have, before trying to make decisions about what to run out there.

Depending upon where in Montana you live, burying 200' of cable may be a heck of a big job.

In summary, until you know how much unused power you have available you have in the main panel, you can't make informed decisions on putting power to your grow room.

Great growing and smoking.

:yeahthat: If you want to do this safely, you are going to have to get some power out there--I cannot believe you are using a romex extension cord in Montana in the winter . Unfortunately, running a new circuit is not going to be cheap, but IMO, it is absolutely necessary and needs to be your first step.

Grow outside, its Montana. Fresh air, great water, Free light. 1 monster that survives, if done right, can produce ALOT of smoke man. Do a couple diff plots. You will always lose a %. Just the way it is in Mother Nautre.

Definately would run power there the right way don't want to risk burning down your plants or worse your whole house. You don't "need" a 1000w light you can get smaller ones. personally i would use a couple of 600w just because the light is spread out more evenly. anyways good luck

I Scoured the Internet for any kind of feasible solution, to your problem. Particularly the Solar alternative. I found that most states in the U.S. offer 30% tax right off on renewable energy sources and you said you were Legal and licensed and if in some way you are disabled you might be able to get financial help or a loan.
I've also found at least 2 programs/books about making your own solar panels but both must be purchased, as I tried to acquire this information in a much cheaper way *cough* free *cough* arrr, but I didn't have any luck, other than that I have to agree with PCduck for a cheap solution And Legalize_Freedom for the cheapest. I know quite, a read for such little help sorry...

If I was legal....oooh man!!! I'd have trees in my yard, with pitbulls chained by each one...lol
