I have an older armoire that has thin wood paneling on the sides and back. Considering that i will be using a 400W HPS, should i replace the wood paneling for something a little thicker, such as 1/2 plywood... or with the right kind of insulation, will the paneling suffice?

I've done the measurments and found that i will need at least 2 sheets of 4' x 8' x 1/2" plywood (3 if i want to replace the doors) -- the 3 sheets of plywood would probably add up to around $45, which in all honesty, is probably more than what the armoire is worth.

So do i spend the money and do it right or do i just half-*** it and buy some insulation, paint it white, and be done with it?

Whats up mang welcome to MP. First let me say your username makes me wanna go to the drug store and get a bottle of R.I.D. If you plan on using it for sometime you might as well put some duckies into it. The one thing you need to make sure is that it's sealed so no light gets in when it comes time for flower. ;) By the way i found i good pic for you to use as an Avatar.

thanks for your concern of my crabby situation, but trust me, it is simply for entertainment purposes. No crabs here.

As for the question...

Will the wood paneling cause me problems down the road? Too much heat or smell escaping? Also i will have an intake fan, exhaust fan, and a fan blowing on the plants so i'm slightly worried about the noise.

What if i seal all the cracks and put some sort of indoor/outdoor carpeting on the walls then paint it all white. Do you think that will serve as enough barrier for the heat, smell, and sound?

sorry man,it was just too funny... anyway welcome..

im also using a 430 w in closet and wood painted white its just fine

No matter what ya do your gonna have some kind of noise coming from your cab. Like i said if you plan on using it for sometime i would add the additional wood.

alrighty

as the box starts to come together, i will post some pics

but as of right now it is a skeleton of what could be. A tiny box of dreams as i like to think of it.
