So, I got seeds from regular commersh, just sitting around, and I was wondering... what makes buds commersh? Is it the handling, packaging or the strain? or Is it good genetics that got pollinated, is that what makes the value go down. Should I waste time and resources on seeds with unknown genetics? OR just order TGA's Qleaner, Vortex, or 3D (cant decide), so I know the genetics are legit.

I'd always start with decent genetics. By doing so, you'll save yourself a lot of heartache and hassle.

Is it the handling, packaging or the strain?
In my book, it's the intention behind the operation.

If you're growing strictly for profit, many things are compromised to get the most $.

Strains are usually low-potency, high harvest-weight (small buds, lots of stem/leaf), and fast finishing.

Handling doesn't matter, since surface crystals are deliberately shaken off (sometimes in water to reduce the end-products' smell) long before it gets shipped.

When buying "commercial" product, the value for you may go down.. but it goes waay up for the people behind the operation.

Think of.. buying a (tasteless) tomato at the supermarket VS buying it from the gardener down the street who grows it for taste. There's a huge price and taste difference.. guess which one McDonald's will put in their burger! Most 'commercial' food farmers never eat their commercial product, since they grow better food for themselves.

:yeahthat:
And you can add, it will probably have been put in a plastic bag and had an SUV drive over it a few times to squash it into a flat brick. And maybe stored for 6 months.

I have grown bagseed before... I am not in it for profit, just free weed for me and the hubby... I have to say that my bag seed weed came out quite tasty!!! It had a hell of a buzz and I don't even know how old the seeds were, I know for the growing expert that is a gaff, but what the hell... I got 2 1/2 oz. from 3 females that my chickens had a feild day with, before i could harvest!!! Just make sure the seeds are completely intact dark and stripey... I really look mine over, I only plant the really awesome lookin ones, let NO seed go to waste...

I use bag seed with good outcome and deciet highs for a few years. People seem to make a lot of noise about buying seed from a seed bank, thats cool too if you have that kind of money.

The reason I thought of seeing what one of these could do was because, the bud it came from had a decent buzz, and I like the way the buds were compact and firm. The stuff I got goin now looks wispy in the beginning of 4th week. Looks like alot of mini dandelion heads with white pistils. Anyway, I was reading some sticky that someone posted "DJ Shorts, breeding tips" or something. And he was saying it had to do with environmental triggers, that would make or break the plants/buds capability. So I was thinking if a commercial seed flowering in my grow room at 75 degrees 20% hum and all the light and food it could ever want, would it be as good a seed as I pay 40 -75 bux for over the internet.... I guess theres only one way to find out huh..

That crazy vancouver guy said:
why is it that people think seedbanks are the only way for good seed to get around? ? ?

Some times it is the only way. If you move to a new area, and don't know anyone, what else are you going to do? Or if your local stuff is all crap, what else are you going to do? Or if all your local stuff is sinsemilla....

i learned my lesson from growing bagseed.think aboutit, most of the crap ya get with seed in it was pollenated or was from a hermie.i think hermie myself.i started with bagseed as alot of us do.i had hermies out the yang.i only pop seeds now that i have ordered or from a good friend that does his own breeding and xing.mostly seeds that are bought.i haven't had a hermie since either.

a seed is a seed enless its got a breader to back it up. i could give u one of my ssh seeds an call it something totly diffrent cuz seeds are just SEEDS! its the DNA blue print in thows little seeds that are what matter. yes u can get hermies like andy says, but come to think of it, femized seeds are FROM HERMIE PLANTS!!! just like with us when we have kids some of our dna is placed inside of them, there for makeing a whole new person. this is why some say bubble gum or blue berry will not taste as what it is said to be. becuse not all traits of our parents are passed down.......the only way to get a plant that is know to be a winner is to get it from a mother plant an clone it. regrade less of where u buy your seeds not evey seed prudced from a plant will be like its mother, it will have traits of its farther. as i found out with my hybrid plant i got, one got the strong mazar traits, yet the other looks like an afaganie plant. same bach of seeds, 2 diffrent plants. yet the 2 silver haze seeds i planted are like twins an look exlaty alike. they show no diffrence in the type of plants they are. well i kinda ranted there but all i am trying to say is, there is no garate your plant will look like my plant even if bought from the same breader. cuz A not evey seed comes from the same plants. yes the good banks like green house seeds will only sell the highest qulity seeds from the best looking plants with the strongest traits they are looking for. the ones that are left are sold to whole sales ers like MS.xxx. all thow they are what they say they are, they came from a plant that did not display the right cararists of what they where looking for, there for are rejected to be sold some where else as to not damage there name.

For me the really big problem is getting from one season to the next. I am well pleased with the Auroras I have now, but there is always a risk that for any random kind of reason I'll lose the moms and clones and won't have that line any more. So for me, trying to get some kind of seed from them is a high priority, so I can keep some seed in deep freeze as insurance.
I just today pollinated a couple of colas on the moms with the sativa, bc the hybrid I already have looks very vigorous and I might as well hope. (Unfortunately none of the original Aurora seed was male.) I don't like ordering seeds from overseas if I don't have to. A risk I don't need.

Go to my profile and look at my pictures, in my alblum, all bagseed grows.
