I have a serious problem that has never occured and that is a ton of algea all over the roots and the medium. All parameters are correct in the room. Its an ebb/flow in silica rocks and its really taking over. I sprayed the roolts with a 3ml per litre solution and it worked but I just did it tonight and not sure if they will bounve back. This is new to me as it has never happened any experience will help. Thanks

Is there maybe some light beating in onto the water ? I would clean your system. Wash the unit and replace the nutrient solution with a fresh mix. Just throw out all the old infested nute mix. Maybe add some H2o2 to for an xtra added protection messure.

Is the container you hold the silica rocks in light proof?
Does the water level rise above the height of the rocks?

The water goes just to the top of the rocks. I dont have a cover but I have woven mylar in between and it diffuses the light pretty well. They dont make a cover with as many holes as I need. I cleaned everything real well with H2O2. They got really pale leaves. I think thats the algea eating all the food. Does anyone know the effects that Algea causes?

Im not to sure about algea effects. I would think that the algea would block the roots from getting penatrated by the nutes therefor you get your pale leaves. Im guessing it could travel and grow up your plant as well and start to give you some bad spots on leaves, stunted growth mite be another effect. This is just my opinion I do not know for sure.

The water goes just to the top of the rocks.
You want to have a dry layer of rocks above the water level, so that no light ever hits anything wet.

What are silica rocks anyways?

Not sure the store was out of hydroton and
I thought it would be good. They are white rocks that see to get really affected by algae. I think I have remedied the problem with H2O2. Just waiting for them to bounce back. You have never seen them in a store ??
