how many plants can i grow with either or. i would really like to grow at least 8 indoors. would 400 be enough?

Lighting has to with the number of sq ft rather than a specific number of plants. For instance, a 400W HD will cover approx 8 sq ft, a 600W approx 12 sq ft. Within that 8-12 sq ft, you can a couple dozen plants or 1 plant. The more plants in a given space under a given amount of light, the less you will yield per plant.
