So I am setting up and preparing for my winter grow. This isn't anything huge. I will be growing in a 2.5'x5' grow tent. I have a viparspetra p4000 light that I've never used before. My last grow was an autoflower grow back in 2022. It was in a 4x4 tent and it actually did pretty well. I think I had more leaf than flower but it was enough to keep me in flower for probably 6 months and due to circumstances out of my control I was forced to get rid of probably 40-50% of my grow.

This will be all new to me. Different genetics, different lights, different tent. I have gotten fairly comfortable with autoflowers and im really wanting to try a a scrog grow. I am trying to decide between autoflower or photoperiod plants. I have some good solid genetics for both. I'll probably look through my seed stock tonight to try narrowing down my choices. Unfortunately my seeds are getting to be several years old but I do keep them refrigerated. I'll be growing organically in earthboxes. I started mixing up my soil. To be honest, I'm not really measuring anything. I mixed in some basalt, azomite, keep meal, bio live, about a cup of dolomite... I'll probably mix in some lobster compost and worm castings too... then I have some liquid Neptune's Harvest to use later in the grow. I will also probably mix in some dynomyco and probably some recharge.

Sounds like a great time to start a grow journal, either at home or here!
Thanks hippie, I was planning on it. It will be my first grow journal here on Marijuana Passion. My gut tells me to stick with autoflowers because I almost all my indoor growing experience is with autos... but I have some photo genetics I know I want to try. And I have always wanted to do a scrog grow which would probably work better with photos.

I consider photos the easiest. I can correct things with photos but autos are on their own cycle which means every mistake costs you.

Just an opinion

I agree, but photos do have their own challenges. With autos i don't have to worry about light leaks or power outages. It would be foolish to assume that just because I have gotten fairly good at growing autos, that photos will be easy. 😅 I know i have forgotten all the seeds I have but I do know I have several Humboldt blueberry muffins seeds. They are supposed to be fast and stable.

So I looked back through my seed collection and I think i am going to try splitting the tent/scrog between 1 blueberry muffin and 1 pineapple upside-down cake. They are both supposed to finish the same time and hopefully similar growth characteristics. So I should roughly end up with a 2.5x2.5 scrog for each plant. I'd prefer to gave 2 smaller lights for more adjustability, but I'll make 1 light work for at least a couple grows.

I'm still getting everything set up in the new tent. I need to build a base to keep the tent off the basement floor and I need to order a new carbon filter and mushroom co2 bag. I still need to build my scrog net too.

I will also start a grow journal for this. Cut me some slack though guys. This will be my first indoor photo grow as well as my first scrog. I'll post my successes as well as failures so others can learn from my mistakes along with me.

As for the base I bought a sheet of 1 1/2 inch foam rated at R10 and cut mine out of that. Available at any big box home improvement store

I normally just build a frame with 2x4's and cut a piece of plywood on top. That allows air in the room to circulate under the tent, and I keep the room in the mid 70's

I'd definitely do photos over autos if you plan on a scrog.

Look forward to seeing your grow...grow.
I have started photos indoors before. Ran them in veg for a couple of months before moving them outside, but I have never flowered them indoors and finished them before. But ever since I saw a proper scrog grow about 14 years ago, I have wanted to try it. It was so impressive seeing a screen full of 6 inch tall top buds. Everything looked so uniform and perfect. I want to be able to do that!

Scrogging isn't rocket science. Just some hands on time and you'll be fine. Scrogs are pretty effective.

I'm all about some training and floater scrogs.

So my soil is 1/3 happy frog, 1/3 worm castings and lobster compost, and then a 1/3 mix of rice hulls and pumice. Then I added rock dust and some other ammendments like gypsum, crab meal, and kelp meal. This soil was used in an auto grow a few years ago and it has been sitting in Rubbermaid totes since then. I have rear-ended with some crab meal, gypsum, lime, crab meal, keep meal, bio live, and some lobster compost.
