Why top?

I know that topping will make a plant shorter and bushier, but does it increase yeild? Also, how long after you top can you go to flower? What are the advantages of topping?

Mostly it is a size thing, and many prefer several medium sized colas to one big one. Not sure if there has ever been a test done on yield. I would imagine lighting would create too many variables.

Just for an example, these 2 pics are of the same strain from seed. Pretty close to the same age too, one was agressively pruned...

I topped 2 out of 5 plants my first grow, I have to say I like the look of that big main cola more, if you have the height.

Wrong... more bushy... more tops... but same volume.
