When feeding nutes.

I've read feed nutes, next day ph'd water, next day nothing.

Then I read Feed nutes, next day nothing, next day ph'd water.

Which one do I follow?

Not really the next day but next time you feed water....heres how I roll

feed ph nutrients....let medium dry out...than PH water...let dry out..than PH nutrients..let dry out...than PH water

I like to use printed calendars and mark what I do each time as to not miss a feed..and or double feed:aok:..

This is how I do it. I use tap water, sometimes I let it sit overnight, if I am in a hurry I use straight from the tap. I add nutes to the water stir, let sit for a few minutes, check ph, add up or down if needed. I like to keep the water close to the temp of grow room. When I water ,I water till I have water coming out of the bottom of pot. Then I lean the pot over on it's bottom rim to drain as much water out as possible. Have you heard of the Sham Wow, they work great to put your pot on after watering to remove excess water out, just put your pot on top ,it acts like a wick Here is something from Hushpuppy I found useful. ( Another trick that will serve you doing soilless grows: For feeding and watering your plants, get a large container to store your water in and keep about 120liters in this container. Get an air pump like is used for a fish aquarium, get a couple meters of airhose and a large air stone. put the airstone with hose into water container and connect to pump so that you can continually aerate the water. You will use this water for feeding and watering. Having it well aerated will help prevent overwatering in the future.

When you mix up your feeding solution, do so a day ahead of schedule, allow it to set for 2hrs after mixing. take out your pH meter and check the solution pH and write it down (to the tenth). Then either agitate it well or get another airstone and hose and aerate it for about 4hrs. Then test it again for pH and see if it moved and which direction. You are looking for the final solution to be between 6.0-6.4 You may have to adjust it either up or down some to get it to this acceptable range.

Once you add some adjuster (pH+ or pH-), only 1-2ml at a time of adjuster until you get the hang of adjusting and know how much it ultimately needs each time (With mine I typically have to add around 5-7ml of adjuster to bring mine to right pH), you will need to allow it to set again for another 2hrs and aerate so that the chemical can buffer. Test it and then allow it to set for another 2hrs again. test again and then adjust again as needed, and continue this waiting process until you are in the target range.

I know this seems like a bit much but you won't have to do this every time. Once you see how much it takes to adjust the pH and how long it takes for it to level out in the solution, then you can shorten this process to match. For me and the nutes I use, I only have to wait about 20minutes before having to adjust, and then I can use it within another 20 minutes. Yours may take longer if it is a buffered nutrient or it may not. It varies some. )

:yeahthat: He knows what he is talking about :hubba: :p :D

this really is dependent on the method of growing, as some methods require constant feeding and others may require flushing in between feedings. i for instance do mostly flood and drain or DWC systems, and i feed all the time

How long will ph'd water be ok in a gallon milk jug storing it?

That is a good question. I wouldn't keep it longer than 1 week and keep it in darkness after it has been well aerated. If you mix up water/nutes for use then it should be ok to mix it several days ahead of time, but there is a chance of some of the elements precipitating out of the solution.

For just storing water to have on hand for use, I would look around where you live to see if you can find a plastic 30gal tank. I know Home depot has 30-40gal "rain barrel" tanks that are good for storing water. They are light proof so that you don't have to worry about algae build-up. They are also enclosed on the top to prevent debris from getting in, But you would definitely want to keep it aerated to prevent anaerobic microbe growth.

Yeah that will be fine. You just need a decent stone and hose long enough to submerge the stone. A good quality air pump will last longer and will be quiet. :)

IMO, it is important to let the water sit to let the chlorine evaporate out--I never use water just drawn from a tap unless it is well water not treated with chlorine or chloramine.

I would recommend a pH more in the 6.3 to 6.8 range for soil. Here is a chart that shows nutrient uptake at different pH levels. http://www.marijuanapassion.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=1833&d=1141100090

I have personally found that 2 hours is not long enough to let things sit. The buffers in the nutrients and the pH take longer to work. I really like to let things sit overnight.

Follow the manufacturer's recommendations on how often to feed. My ex (I'd say RIP, but he was a jerk) used to feed only once a week--he called it Fertilizer Friday and he grew some outstanding plants. As far as just giving plain water....Nothing can tell YOU how often YOU have to water YOUR plants. There are a lot of factors that influence how often you have to water--RH, pot size, medium, strain. etc. Some strains just drink up more water than others. Water when the plant is dry and feed according to manufacturer's recommendations.

thats funny he called it fertlizer friday. I told my wife, ' Well is feeding Friday ' that is the day I picked to feed.

and Sunday is picture day:D
