I have two 1 week and 2 day old babies (sour candy & Hawaiian snow) Pictures coming soon! look forward to hearing a lot of good bits of info :]:tokie:

Welcome to the Forum! Lots of good reading and peeps on here.

Thanks guys! I just came back from the hydro store. bought fox farms big bloom and microbe brew, Im excited to see what this does for me. advanced nutrients are expensive as sh^t!!!

Strains: Sour Candy <wich is growing very nicely, (diesel X blue berry) , Hawaiian Snow (Green house seeds sativa/indica cross)

Im using an old hamper that I rigged together with a swinging door and 2 cfl's for vegi ( x1: 300wtt x1:120wtt) I also have a 9 inch high power fan constantly blowing cool air for my girls. They are in 3 gallon pots for now. I used Scotts Soil, the plainest one they have with no added fertilizers, also 20%perlite was added in the mix. I plan on building my own grow tent out of a pvc cage and mylar so I will have more room to work with.

Nutes havent been applied yet, tomorrow morning will be the first feeding of the microbe brew and big bloom :)

quick question, has anyone grown hawaiian snow before? Is it normal for them to look like that at 1 week and 2 days? Im guessing its going to be a long plant thats why its so lanky looking but I may be wrong..

Lankiness is usually attributed to not enough lumens or your lights being too far away. jmo

yea I agree but look at the sour candy, its looking great and they both get switched around so they get the same amount of light from each bulb. Im getting another 120wtt cfl soon but they should be ok for now. I can probably raise them a bit more.

You might want to look into HPS rather than continuing to buy more CFLs. A HPS gives you about twice the useable light as CFLs for the same amount of electricity used (CFLS are the least efficient of all the lights we use for growing and cost about twice as much in electricity every month). Also, when speaking of CFLs, use the ACTUAL wattage, not the equivalent wattage, which is useless for growing purposes.

@hemp- Yea I would love to own one of those except moneys kinda tight at the moment, Ive seen what they can do, but Ive also seen amazing grows with only cfl's. the 65wtt light has about 3900 lumen, and the 125 watt has 5000 lumen. another 7000 lumen is going in there in about 4 days. Does that sound like a good amount of light in order to have a pretty decent grow? This is my first time actually putting effort into growing so any feedback , good or bad is appreciated!

@puffinnugs- Yea the sour candy has some strange leaves indeed! Im hoping its more of a bushier plant than a longer, taller type. and as for the Snow plant I just want it to start looking normal damnit lol

I don't have much room to grow in , its literally like 3x3 or 4x4. Is 15,000 lumen gonna be a good source of light for them? I do want save up some cash and get a 250 hps or something but that will be later on..
What strain is that in the pic? or is it unknown? nothing wrong with one big, juicy cola to savor!

recommended 3000 L p sq ft minimum and 5000 for flower. 3x3 is 9 sq ft...

Nugs- what is a good price (doesnt have to be the best out there) for a complete 400 hps? So I can start doing some window shopping :aok:

Hick Ill keep that in mind, didnt know that was the breakdown. :tokie:

Well, This is a hobby that does take an expenditure of time, effort, study, and money if you hope to reap anything after your 3-4 months of growing. You will have about 16,000 lumens--good for a space about 1' x 3'. You are probably using 250-300 watts of electricity to generate those lumens. For a space 3 x 3, you are going to need 45,000 lumens or almost triple what you have now. To get that you can buy 3 times as many CFLs as you have now and use 750-900 watts of electricity or try and find a 400W HPS that puts out 45,000-55,000 lumens and uses a little over 400W.

While CFLs will grow decent bud, they are the least efficient of all the lights we use to grow. Lumen for lumen, they put out more heat, generally cost more to purchase initially, cost more in electricity every single month, and produce less bud. The bud is also often light and airy without the denseness that HIDs produce. You are going to spend 3-4 months (or more) taking your plants from seedlings to harvest. Make it worth the time and effort you have to put into this.

@hemp- I understand the whole hps vs cfl believe me. If I could have it right now I would certainly switch to hps. Its just a matter of waiting maybe a week or two since other things are of higher priority at the moment. Im not mad at all with the results so far, my grow space is actually more like 1x2 now that I measured it better.. I cant wait to find a good lamp, I want my plants to be as thick and dense with bud as possible but this will have to do for a little bit until I can get a nice 400 wtt hps..I see a lot of people use the 400 wtt, is that like the basic bulb size everyone gets?

@nugs, good lookin out, I was actually looking at this one on ebay earlier :

hxxp://www.ebay.com/itm/High-Presssure-Sodium-GROW-LIGHT-400-250-150-watt-w-/400192553185?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&var=&hash=item9bff7a4a0e *_* change the xx to tt

know any good sites for cheap bulbs?

1 week and 3 days.. S.candy is doing great , H.snow just looks weird! Ive been reading a lot about that specific starin and everyone mentions how its such a needy plant, hope it straightens out soon!

I'll deff keep an eye out for some good lamps, I found realy good cheap bulbs at 1000bulbs.cxx

Is that for certain that it will be male or hermie? I did some reading and found that some people experience mutations like these and also stranger ones and with some time the plant straightens itself out. If it doesnt start looking better in a week Im going to pull it out and try starting a cheese plant
